I'm really bummed as I was excited about this router and have had nothing but good things to say about ASUS from my experience with my old router

bought mine at Frys because my old router broke but this thing was quite a upgrade i used it for gaming using ethernet and wireless both of which were done three floors apart from

this thing is crazy

All of that said, the only real nice thing I have to say is that the signal does cover my entire home which is great, but I am making the switch to the nighthawk

Really...the best thing is that connectivity is excellent everywhere

This thing does a great job of providing coverage to the entire house as well as out to my attached garage.

If I end up buying another router - I don't want this awful thing back

When I got the router initially things were actually quite good.

I love this thing.

It is a very satisfactory thing

I tried D-Link which I got on sale - it is a solid router but has very few options for parental controls and other nice things which you got used to on ASUS WRT (Tomato based) firmware

I can't say enough good things about this Tri-band AC wireless router.

That is the other thing, the three bands working together on this router dominate all the noise in my congested neighborhood

thing is killer and gets the job done

The best thing about ASUS is the Tech support is free unlike the other brands

This thing is like a gaming computer, pretty nuts

Another nice thing is Asus' self-hosted DDNS service

Sad to say, heard many good things about ASUS routers.

If you're not into it setting things up automatically, like every router you can dig up and set everything up yourself

This thing works so good, I no longer use my wired stereo for the back and went 100% streaming off an iPad to a bluetooth jam box!!

I read some great things about Asus networking products and decided to ignore some of the less complimentary reviews on this one and take a chance.

This unsatisfied transfer rate was not the worst thing for

After spending a lot of time customizing things, I ran a speed test and things were terribly slow

You can see every device on your network and do things like limit your kids smartphone browsing

The most peculiar thing is that according to CrystalDiskMark USB 2.0 (second screenshot) can be faster than USB 3.0 (first screenshot) for my hard drive in some situations

You can set-up TM successfully only if you restore router to factory defaults and configure it from the beginning manually (NOT AUTOMATICALLY), one important thing – during configuration router cannot be connected to internet (in this case it will configure automatically)

The thing works, and has reliable WiFi 802.11ac as well as 802.11n.

Got this router months ago after reading so many good things abt it, the signal really goes far way, control dashboard has so many functions, HOWEVER 5G band is very very unstable, it keeps playing on/ off line every hour, so if you are looking for a rock stable 5G band go for Netgear or Cisco.

I've heard good things about the Netgear Nighthawk, would probably try that next time.

I had only been using the damn thing 5 days and BOTH wireless bands just stopped working for no reason at all

They force you to set up a wireless is and password, which tbh is a good thing

Circle support tried many different things but no joy

But shortly after that, Netgear firmware updates became very unstable and constantly caused me to roll back to an much older versions just to keep things somewhat stable and operational.

Since I installed the Asus, these frustrations are now a thing of the past; I' ve particularly noticed a dramatic improvement in my iPad's performance (an older iPad 4).

This thing is ready to boil some eggs

But the last two just can't finesse the finer things routers can do (like do dual wan -- though they claim to).

Upgraded my network to a 500 down 50 up service and this thing works like a charm

Asus has revised this thing at least 5 times without fixing this problem

Cool thing though Asus just added functionality and built into the firmware to be controlled by alexa

The 2.4G covered most of my house and the 5G covered much of it as well.

Love the features and the strong 2.4G signal

Normally this wouldn't be such a big deal but with media servers, TVs, AV receivers, security cameras, etc... relying on a stable 5g network, it's completely unacceptable

I'm sure the tester turned it on and saw the 5g worked fine and then boxed it up and sent it back vs. reading what I had wrote and properly tested it for a straight period of over 4 hours
