I purchased the AC88U to replace a 5 year old Asus AC66U. After setting up the AC88U, the one thing I immediately noticed was the excellent 2.4GHz Wi-Fi coverage.

Anyhow, the farther coverage sounds great and should be a slam dunk for my house which is 1/2 the quoted square footage.

The coverage was not any better than my R7000.

Having said that, I ended up not needing a Mesh as this router by itself has great coverage for my home.

The coverage is excellent and connected speeds are excellent on both floors and even in the garage

This router solved those and we now have great coverage outside.

I'm really bummed as I was excited about this router and have had nothing but good things to say about ASUS from my experience with my old router

They will not give you a refund for the unit and will continue to send you a refurbished unit that is very likely to break as it seems these are hit or miss on hardware issues

Using the smart connect rules, I was able to get the router to stabilize as long as I kept everything from connecting to the 5Ghz-1 (Lower) channel.

We have multiple clients attached, our labtop can finally work as it was designed

The downside is that file transfers for my laptop to my multi homed NAS box (an 8 by Synology with network teaming) isn't as fast as with the Google OnHub that I pulled out to test this.

Like the rest who are advanced users of networking equipment no matter what I've tried (thermal, firmware, bandwidth, location, control channel, etc) the 5g continues to drop while the 2g is rock solid

Got this router months ago after reading so many good things abt it, the signal really goes far way, control dashboard has so many functions, HOWEVER 5G band is very very unstable, it keeps playing on/ off line every hour, so if you are looking for a rock stable 5G band go for Netgear or Cisco.
