ASUS Dual-Band Gigabit WiFi Gaming Router (AC3100) with MU-MIMO, supporting AiProtection network security by Trend Micro, AiMesh for Mesh WiFi system, and WTFast game Accelerator (RT-AC88U)

    • Asus offers a full spectrum of MAC based controls to permit or deny devices
    • When that thing started downloaded updates, other devices started to sputter quite a bit
    • Devices like the Roku can not be connected at times to the IP remote, or controlled by/seen by a smart device with an app.
    • Amazon graciously replaced the device following my first week of frustration with it and the new router behaved in the same fashion, if not worse than the original
    • The guest network was set up to match the current network (so that in theory the smart devices would connect without having to enter passwords and assign networks) and again had to go around trying (key word trying) to get the devices to connect
    • This device is uselessly unreliable
    • The device worked great for about 6 months and then the 2.4 ghz radio stopped working
    • The device worked great for about 6 months and then the 2.4 ghz radio stopped working
    • Several devices did not work with the original router that I received.
    • Nearly all of my smart plugs and devices require the 2.4 Ghz network to connect too.
    • So.... said thank you for nothing to the rep as he hurriedly tried to provide a case number, hung up, disconnected the router and plugged the current apple router back in, and had absolutely no issues reconnecting every single smart device we have to that router
    • Seeming a good device overall.
    • I do heavy gaming as well as muitlipe devices streaming at times in the house with a 6 people family and it has
    • All together this device is NOT worth the price
    • Prior to upgrading I had no issue connecting every device.
    • After the update all my smart devices in my home disconnected from the network
    • Went through the long process of setting up new ids and passwords and resetting the information on every single smart device (this should not have to be done, there should definitely be an easier way to use the same network name/id)
    • This device has been functioning great!!!. I would strongly recommend this to others.
    • And it has a USB 2 and a USB 3 port to host devices as well.
    • Then 3rd one for my smart home device hub
    • Yesterday the device had an unexpected and complete failure and dropped off the network, no way to access it
    • He said this was the best version because it supported tri band, and how he explained that was...each band services a form of wifi signal and having three bands means if you have two old crappy devices and one brand new one that supports a faster wifi, the router can keep the crappier ones on the outdated bands and the fancy new one can use the best one
    • A great router extremely powerful it can reach your devices no matter how big your house is excellent for video streaming and gaming definitely worth the investment the homepage is very user
    • Device is working exceptionally
    • Now the window of opportunity to return a "not suitable to requirement" device has passed.
    • Asus came out with AiMesh but will not support this device along with another fairly current model the RT
    • Sounded great--specs--power--device
    • My only complaint is that this device is difficult to remove dust from
    • to.*******UpdateFirmware updated disabled all devices from connecting to wifi
    • This router is the best consumer network device I have ever used.
    • and supports the 25 devices we have in the building with no problem
    • I installed the new router and within a matter of 10 minutes my entire house of smart devices was back up and running with no issue
    • I've recommended this device to two other friends and helped one of them installed it.
    • Some devices are connected at random times, some devices don't get a good connection and sometimes the router itself crashes
    • Beware, this is a large device with a strange appearance.
    • This device is awesome!
    • Well have had this device for just a couple months and the 2.4 ghz band crapped out.
    • The device is not reliable for wireless band 2.4GHz, this is my last ASUS router
    • I trust the Asus brand to make good devices and this one is no exception.
    • The devices that are hardwired are much faster, about 3x as fast, as those that are on the Wi-Fi alone
    • Live in a house hold were there are well over 40 devices utilizing our network at any given time
    • After I disabled the static IP configuration, all devices
    • If you have many devices and like to adjust how everything work, you won't regret buying this.
    • Seems to be a great device.
    • so I should have know they would not support the device.
    • As far as recommending this device - it worked great for the first few months.
    • Among their favorites were: possibly too many devices on the wifi, the wifi is only as fast as the slowest device on the network, your equipment may be too old (uh, no…), possibly too many nearby neighbors with wifi, and the go-to escape clause: speeds are only guaranteed over Ethernet
    • As a result of ASUS's slow/non-existent response, their WiFi routers are vulnerable to eavesdropping and hijaacking, while leaving your wifi-accessible devices open to remote control.
    • I can see who a sneaked a device like their DSI or phone into bed now
    • Wow have 12 devices on it’s all streaming no problems absolutely incredible
    • So.... said thank you for nothing to the rep as he hurriedly tried to provide a case number, hung up, disconnected the router and plugged the current apple router back in, and had absolutely no issues reconnecting every single smart device we have to that router
    • Then the device's network connectivity dies until you power cycle it
    • the 2.4GHz was dead which is required for many smart devices as in my case
    • My 5Ghz is as fast as my cabled devices, from anywhere in my 2100 sq ft 2 story house
    • Overall the device is great (may be overkill for a simple network) but you need to invent a way to cool it down
    • And most Alexa and other smart home devices use 2.4G.
    • ASUS informed me that there is a list of incompatible devices that are only listed on their support webpage under FAQs
    • So if someone manages to hack one device they won't be able to go far
    • I love the ability to restrict kids devices, time, etc.
    • but I have to keep my old AC66U around in case I get a new smart device that won't activate against the AC88U.
    • I read the reviews concerning reliability at the time of purchase (June last year) but took a chance on it because it was supposedly the best device available at the time
    • Overall, I would recommend this device as it is definitely gamer friendly and not as expensive as those 300$
    • Also a lot of smart home devices that has to be used under the same network to work
    • I originally purchased the Netgear Nighthawk X10, but had major issues with it dropping devices.
    • Replaced my ASUS RT-N66U to support multi users and devices.
    • It just stays slightly warm just as any electronics device would
    • I setup guest networks to isolate some of the "smart" devices on my network from the rest of the network
    • I think I made a mistake buying this device cause its too much of a POWERHOUSE!!
    • between it's dropping connections where the other did not, slow performance, not being to support the nominal devices and the software not using the same acl, requiring each device to be enter for whichever band with as opposed to making that selection at the device level... sad to say it was a disappointing experience.
    • Its a beautiful device
    • If you only have apple phones at home like me setting up smart devices can be frustrating until they fix this bug.
    • In addition to my laptop and smartphone, I have about 30 other smart devices - Nest, Ring Pro, D-Link cameras & water sensor, TP-Link smart plugs & bulbs, Nexx Garage, Echo dots.
    • My Tablet and phone (as well as other devices) can sometimes connect to the 5ghz WIFI but usually it will provide no internet access
    • I was continuously having dropped signal and having to reset my previous router, which was becoming a nearly daily occurrence and it was extremely frustrating, I have multiple smart TVs, iPads, laptops, wink, Alexa’s, smart home devices and 8 ip
    • Started seeing random network hangs on wireless where the wireless device was still connected but network speeds slowed to a crawl where even the router management console could not load
    • I currently have 7 pc's 4 cellphones, and a myriad of Smart home devices and the router does what it is supposed to now and reliably
    • (Warning: More devices require a subscription fee to Wtfast)
    • No issues whatsoever when connecting connecting 10 to 15 devices at a given time.
    • I had no doubt it would be a powerful device, but since I already had a D-Link
    • Works great, it supports all our wireless devices without a glitch, love it!!
    • Works great, it supports all our wireless devices without a glitch, love it!!
    • The signal is pretty good and provides enough of a signal for a good number of smart devices
    • I highly recommend this device.
    • Wireless works as well as wired devices
    • It still has some connectivity issues, but then again it could be the devices as well
    • Additionally, the device seems to slow down over time.
    • All wired and wireless devices are stable, any the network is performing at peak performance
    • The device is a bit weird with its 8 antenna
    • the price, not very impressed.this is a very expensive device and should have worked more than a couple of months before dying
    • It's not a firmware issue; the device (probably chipset) is faulty
    • Remember this is a strong device meant to support heavy gaming
    • For the WTfast network, it only boosts one device for free which is perfectly fine as I mainly do online gaming more on the PS4
    • You never really get a good idea of what is currently connected to your router because devices intermittently come and go from the network map...frustrating...although the devices don't actually seem to lose connection.
    • Device failed.
    • As a result of ASUS's slow/non-existent response, their WiFi routers are vulnerable to eavesdropping and hijaacking, while leaving your wifi-accessible devices open to remote control.
    • Wireless range is much improved, devices that only showed one bar now show 3 or all four in the same location.
    • The AC3100 would not allow my smart devices to be discovered on the network
    • I had issues with my old router acting up whenever I was playing my Xbox and also when I was streaming movies to my TV this device is super fast and it was so easy to configure they didn't even need to use a PC just downloaded the Asus app and configured every little detail from my phone highly recommend this
    • I will likely just write this POS router off as a loss, trash it, and buy a good Netgear or D-Link.
    • , i so mad dont even want to replace it
