ASUS Gaming Router Tri-bAnd WiFi (Up to 5334 Mbps) For VR & 4K streaming, 1.8GHz Quad-Core processor, Gaming Port, Whole Home Mesh System, & AiProtection Network With 8 x Gigabit LAN ports(GT-AC5300)

    • Instead of buying this router, I recommend an RT-AX88U, it provides good performance for the price, and there is at least one good third party firmware available.
    • Firmware Version:3.0.0.4.384_45713 seemed to fix all the issues I had (VPN Fusion mostly as well as QoS) and this thing hasn't crashed in weeks
    • So it only took them a little over 2 months to rectify the faulty firmware update.
    • The GT-AC5300 and the RT-AC5300 both are having hardware issues with the wireless radio signal and firmware
    • I am holding on to this router for a bit longer in hopes a new firmware will resolve all the issues.
    • It is definitely faster but it seems to me for that speed I've traded down in firmware quality and versatility
    • Firmware must have been bad previously
    • I really wanted to love this router.. unfortunate the firmware and hardware where pretty bad.
    • I ended up downloading the correct firmware to my PC, disconnecting my wireless connection entirely (I.E. disconnecting from the 5300) and plugging the 88U into the PC's ethernet slot using a cat 6 cable.
    • Initially I was concerned about the firmware bugs that a few older reviewes rightfully complained about, but after reading up on people’s experiences on a few forums I discovered that all the main issues were caused by a faulty June 2017 update and have subsequently been resolved by the August release
    • Poor performance is now shadowed by a bad firmware update
    • I called tech support (asus) and we back dated the firmware and it worked for about an hour
    • It should be noted that ASUS has yet to patch their firmware to protect against KRACK, despite having been notified of the vulnerability in advance of the public release of the exploit.
    • and I am almost certain I will be returning it, unless ASUS pulls some sort of miracle firmware update out of thin air, which I doubt
    • The big problem with this router is the firmware (the newest)
    • The firmware was initially a little goofy but after the latest update it seems to be really stable
    • Did not like the fact that I had to update the firmware immediately so the wired lan would work
    • All Asus routers are plagued by bad firmware, over powered transmitters, interference with receive side
    • Latest firmware is fixing all the problems this router ever had
    • I have tried to recover firmware and reset to factory and the same thing happens again
    • ASUS’ software has been bad for years and firmware updates frequently brick their devices
    • Either there is a manufacturing issue, where some routers have a problem and i got one of those, or there is a firmware issue or its just plain bad.
    • , i so mad dont even want to replace it
