    ATLIN Honing Guide - Fits Chisels 1/8” to 1-7/8”, Fits Planer Blades 1-3/8” to 3-1/8”

    • I have a set of old very good chisels on which the blade is not long enough to achieve a useful angle.
    • Meaning, you have to secure bench chisels where they instruct you to secure mortis chisels
    • Works easily enough on modern chisels and planes
    • I haven't yet given it more than a brief, cursory trial on an old, very dull chisel, but it does seem to function exactly as intended
    • Used an old cheap chisel as a test, it kept the angle properly without issue, and I was able to shrpen it up just fine.
    • Worked great for me....purchased after reading prior reviews and was prepared to modify it according to the video on Google....but figured it wasn't needed as long as you were careful to secure the chisel in the guide
    • My Mortising chisels like to slip out if I dont have them just right

    • the small chisels (1/4" and lower) are very difficult to get locked in due to the profile of the edges not matching the profile of the hone clamp face.
    • As for the actual product review, this guide works well with my plane irons, Stanley Sweetheart chisels, and even a Craftsman 1" solid steel contractor-style chisel

    • Stability of the tool depends on both the roller wheel and the width of the chisel; very narrow chisels are not easy to keep square.
    • seems well constructed the directions were clear and easy to follow I used it right out of the package watched a few u-tube videos and in a couple hours I sharpened 6 chisels and 5 plane blades worked well for me.
    • For someone that`s not a chisel or block plane sharpening master, i find this is as close as one can get to being a master at sharpening your blades

    • I filed the inside profile of the guide a bit so my chisels would fit better, but product overall worked very well (especially for the price) in renewing some worn out chisel edges.

    • This tool was invaluable in keeping the right angle and getting to the sharp chisel ai needed
    • I had to give them a basic grind to hollow out the back and remove the notches on the grinding wheel first (make sure the chisel stays cool with water)
    • However, the "V" notches are still too small to consistently hold for most chisels and must be enlarged with a file to accommodate more commonly available chisels.
    • They are nice in every respect except it you want to sharpen a typical chisel like about ten of mine are

    • at sharping knifes & tools, I had freehand my old chisels to my liking
    • My chisels are sharper than they ever were; they now cut likethe famous "knife cutting butter".
    • I now have my chisel back with a fine edge thanks to ATLIN.

    • Veritas: $50+, a pain in the ass to set up, clamp doesn't hold well (especially tapered chisels), but has that neat pivot for dual-bevelingATLIN: $15, uses as ruler to set the angle, has multiple ports for different blades, clamps blades and tools so much more securely
    • A bit tricky at first but after 6 chisels found it worked great.
    • This makes the chisels not fit well into this jig, which wants the sides of the chisel to have an acute angle that fits into the jig's groove
    • This product is fantastic, I sharpened my wood chisels with this after sharpening them on the Tormek 8 and what a difference the chisels were scary sharp
    • Fits plane blades as well as a mortizing chisel or paring chisel.
    • The chisel worked so well that I sharpened all of my chisels!
    • The tightening screw that secures the chisel in place feels flimsy and is not easy to use.

    • I messed up the bevel on a few of mine trying to set it by hand, so the first use of it took a little longer, but it was able to set a very nice edge - even on my cheap HF chisels

    • So now to the honing guide, I started out with a really old pretty much destroyed pairing chisel for practice

    • Although I am effective free hand honing chisels and plane irons, this guide renders more consistent results allowing me to polish the whole ground edge, which holds sharp longer and brings pearing to a cleaner and safer standard
    • It really helped me get my blades and chisels sharp but did have a little trouble clamping the smaller chisel.
    • Good enough for my beater chisel but I will have to come up with a better solution for my good chisels.
    • Although not the classical design of a mortice chisel, it is the shape of inexpensive chisels found at big box stores.

    • This honing guide works very well for plane irons, but it is difficult -- almost impossible -- to properly secure a wood chisel for accurate honing.
    • It is accurate and adaptable for honing/ sharpening a variety of hand tools I.e. chisels,hand planer blades etc
    • I think this will work very well for sharpening my plane blades, but the chisels are very hard to get held straight
    • After a few minor adjustments this tool works great sharpening chisels and plane blades.
    • Now they are very nice inexpensive chisels

    • When you follow the instructions(which are very thorough) you will be left with a very sharp chiseled plane iron.

    • All of my old dull chisels are in process of transforming into the sharpest tools in the shed
