The mic and speaker provide much better sound quality than the UV-5R.Both the 5R and 82 have been effective in rolling wooded terrain, though my longest range to date is only around a mile

Now, I know I just listed some negatives, but when I personally look at reviews I am more concerned with any possible flaws, than if the item has extra features, since, if I am buying it to work as a 2 way radio, that is the main function I care about, but for those that are looking for what specifically I like about the radio, here we go!First off, the build quality is absolutely stellar

The sound quality is great!

It has a fantastic feel to it, and the sound quality is better than the UV-5R. Programing with CHIRP worked perfectly, programming by hand is not easy, but none of the Baofeng radios (or others like them) are.

Rx and Tx are improved, I have gotten multiple reports of great transmission quality and improved audio over the UV5R as well, and audio quality over the speaker is far better.

The FM reception is of terrible quality, and with poor signal levels, I'm not sure if the later is due to the antenna being for 146MHZ, but it should still work

It just /works/, it works as you'd expect, it feels GREAT, it sounds GREAT, audio reports are GREAT, battery life is /insanely great/ in comparison to the UV-5R, its subtle operating changes to be more efficient than the 5R are

Programming the radio is just as easy as the 5R as it uses the same operating system

They are a little longer than the Bao Feng UV5R, which I like as it fits my hand better.

I'm guessing the radio has increased in popularity as it has suffered from price creep, now at $49 here on Amazon
