beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO Over-Ear Studio Headphones in black. Open construction, wired

    • I would love to see a comment from some one that has the Sound Blaster Z and a tube headphone amp to hear if it is worth buying an inexpensive (less than $200) tube headphone amp.
    • If u get the 250 ohm or 600 ohm, you will need a strong amp to run them, again you will love these things
    • The highs can get a bit piercing with the volume turned up, but with a decent amp, it actually doesn't distort or crackle
    • Also at 250 ohm you certainly need an amp powerful enough to really get these cans to show off their sound stage
    • As there is no real color to the headphone an appropriate amp would do well with this can for music listening
    • Don't expect to be able to hear anything on an airplane with out a portable amp.
    • An amp makes a difference, but I think the DT 990 PRO needs a good, matching rated amp to get the most out of it
    • Make sure you have good pc sound card / portable DAC and AMP to get full potential of 250 ohm headphones audio quality
    • The only downside, at least for a Hi-Fi newbie like me, that after you try these, there is no way back - you will be looking for a better amp (the little cute Fiio did not cut it for me, I had to upgrade to Shiit) and you will be looking for a better quality sound (good bye old mp3s and older iTunes files; mercifully, however, the Spotify Premium is good enough for my ears
    • Really flat, and they love them a headphone amp.
    • It shows how important it is to choose the right amp when running any good headphone.
    • it goes to show you how popular and in demand the amp is
    • Very good headphones i use a portable amp with with it for pc gaming no issues i like it .
    • He likes 'em much more than his Beats Studios now and picked these over the Sennheiser HD598 cans once he got to listen to them as he'd have them (plugged into the amp).So get a good amp and these things are rich, lively, detailed, and wide sounding
    • While this amp isn't available on Amazon (and now sold out online until late January
    • They need a good amp to sound loud and dynamic, yet I am running them on Asus Xonar DC and the excellent sound is there
    • Any amp will work fine just use one to get the full potential out of these headphones.
    • However, i think these should be burned in and plugged into a much better amp to get the most out of it
    • but now I'm buying a portable amp to get the most of it anytime
    • The 250 Ohm model is the sweet spot out of the three, but make sure you have a good amp to power them
    • They sell portable battery powered amps that drive them well, but in all honesty you want to listen to these in a quiet room for them to truly shine
    • These are an absolute joy to listen to, especially when paired with a decent headphone amp that can drive the 250ohm version properly
    • Not as good as an amp, but not anemic like plugging them into the phone.
    • --so I hope it mostly goes without saying that these headphones, the 250 OHMs in my case, sound great when driven by a good amp
    • They sound great using a good headphone amp.
    • Do yourself a favor, pick up a little amp for these like a schiit magni or vali, o2, or the like and relish in the glorious sound these things produce
    • May need an amp to get the appropriate volume (currently using Astro Mixamp)- non-detachable cordOpen back design is a matter of preference, your sound will leak through.
    • Based on my experience with such sources I would not recommend these cans for use with portable devices without a proper amp
    • Since it's running on 250ohm, it's best to also pair it with a decent AMP or DAC to really support it.
    • An 02/ schiit magni or vali, or any other cheap little amp will run these just fine
    • These are inefficient and you really need a portable amp to drive them properly with IPods, etc
    • The reward for going for the higher 250 ohms version of the DT990 Pro (as opposed to the the 32 ohm version) is that with a suitable headphone amp you'll get a much better "damping factor" with the higher impedance.
    • Paired with a good amp you will be very pleasantly surprised
    • They do need a decent headphone amp to really make them sing
    • They definitely sound bigger when run through a decent headphone amp
    • The DT 990 Pro paired with a Fiio E11 portable amp seemed a hard combination to beat, so I took the plunge
    • I recommend a decent amp, nothing fancy, but something that can allow you to fully appreciate these headphones
    • You need a decent amp to power it up -- at least for the real sound it can generate.
    • Cons: Needs an AMP
    • Coupled with a decent headphone amp (a must buy at 250 ohms
    • It's possible my amp just isn't powerful enough to drive them (
    • An amp is most definitely needed to enjoy these properly, and it's more than worth it.
    • but I can't wait to try them with a proper headphone amp
    • I highly recommend the 990 Pro headphones and portable DAC amp.
    • However, if you don't mind using a small portable amp, you can get a good one on Amazon for less than $100 and still be well ahead of the money game
    • I highly recommend if this is your first pair of good headphones you should also get an amp for this to improve the overall sound quality.
    • Listen to these on a good quality headphone amp and be surprised.
    • I definitely recommend a quality amp and DAC if you want the most out of them, though they will still sound excellent without.
    • An amp is most definitely needed to enjoy these properly, and it's more than worth it.
    • If you are just getting into audio engineering, or are just a cost conscious listener, you can't go wrong with these as long as you have the appropriate equipment (decent DAC and amp for starters, not to mention high quality source material) to take advantage of them
    • Just make sure you purchase an amp as well so you can really enjoy these bad boys
    • Pain as in the headphones squeezed with enough pressure to force one loop through my ear wrong side first, leaving some blood on the cans, my ears and the my shirt so that I was questioned in great detail later (it's
    • From what I've read on Amazon and on other websites, the sound of these phones will improve as they "burn in".
