The darkness setting seems to be accurate, but you're only supposed to use it to get the right pre-heating temperature; as with all waffle irons, you cook until the steam stops coming out, not based on any lights or buzzers

The heat from the first fiveteen seconds of warming was enough to break the hinge on the product

Suggest: Clean, heat, cool, clean & heat again before use to rid of odors in no-stick surface

The cord doesn't lead out the back of the unit, it leads out the front - as if it were installed backward.

We used closer to 3/4 cup of batter not 2/3 as recommended and even then some waffles were slightly undersized which resulted as a not as crisp product

It has a convenient light that that turns off when it is done pre heating as well as when your waffle is actually done
