Since there is no less expensive quality tape, I have to rate this unit five stars.

- Look for TZ tape in lots.-Also uses the inexpensive Sophia TZ compatible tapes

The tape is very expensive and each time you print the labeler eject wide blanks in the front and back of your text to intentionally make you buy more and more of the refills, that's where they get you

Within less than a year it wouldn't load the cartridge correctly, the tape kept jamming inside the machine, I tried 2 different cartridges with the same result

Major problem is the excess tape before print starts and after it ends.

The tapes themselves are durable and stick well, but don't leave a mess if you do need to remove them at some point

And of course, all Brother PT machines come set to waste as much tape as possible before and after what you want to print and you have to figure out how to cut out that waste

The blank tape is expensive though I don't know a better alternative

If I wanna label more things cheaply, I can label my things with pens and paper, so this is a good opportunity to practice my handwriting, especially in cursive because cursive is more natural and it's also a good and valuable skill for me to have.- Finally, it will be better if Brother has the tapes available in more colors (up to 1/2 in wide), such as blue on white (curretly available in 3/4 in wide but not 1/2 in wide or narrower), green on white, lime green on black, magenta on white, purple on white, etc

Seeing how expensive the tape is that was a major problem

Tape is expensive, of course,and it does waste too much.
