The first thing is that you have to decide is 5 seconds or 10 seconds is enough coffee

I think it is because you get an even grind which means you have more control over the end result, i.e. mild or strong coffee.

We had an electric grinder and switched to a hand burr grinder which produced excellent coffee, but took forever

The burr mechanism itself is NOT washable or easily cleaned - it could retain a bit of "stale" coffee if I didn't use it regularly

Didn't care for what the ground coffee goes into, very static and the coffee goes everywhere and ground coffee leaks from grinder for a while, kinda messy.
