• Reviews around gain (4.21 of 5)

Caline USA, CP-15, Tantrum heavy metal Distortion Guitar Effect Pedal

    • It also seems to have somewhat less gain / breakup available on tap than the CTO-1 - 50% / high noon on the Pure Sky's gain control, or at least on the Pure
    • But where it shines is as a clean boost - gain at zero, treble and bass at max, adjust volume as needed
    • Combined with a dirty amp or another overdrive, you easily achieve screaming shred gain
    • There's a lot of debate over the technical difference between boost, overdrive, and distortion (my unit actually says "OVERDRIVE" across the bottom, but the cliff notes version of that is that by boosting the input gain of a guitar signal, you can create an overdriven sound
    • I have paid $150 for pedals that I never really could dial in...for $30 you can get transparant boost or a fantastic mid/low gain OD (to my ear)
    • A second "issue" that I have found is the pedal is a little noisy which is kind of to be expected as this is a high gain pedal and high gain amplifiers have some gain noise as well nothing surprising there
    • Tone is rich and organic, with just the right degree of transparency and sounding musical and across its wide gain spectrum capable of being integrated with other drive pedals
    • If you are already a fan of the BB Preamp, or you want to experiment with the sound of a transparent mid-gain boost pedal I recommend it
    • On it’s own the Pure Sky is a fantastic low/mid-gain Boost pedal
    • This is a low gain pedal but very transparent.
    • This is a great low- to medium-gain overdrive
    • The gain ranges from pretty clean to transparent drive all the way to medium overdrive some say similar to Marshall.
    • Works great with *any* one of these other pedals (just don't overdo the gain). Now, as for the long-term quality, well, it's made of metal, but internally, it's a cheap wave-soldered Chinese pedal
    • If you want to experiment with the sound of a transparent low-gain boost pedal without spending hundreds of dollars on "Boutique” I recommend this
    • Not too bad, it's a low gain overdrive
