I'm not sure if this was done to help frame-rates, or if they wanted to maintain a certain aspect-ratio or what they were going for here, but it's a shame that they chose to waste some of the screen space with this split-screen mode

You can play split screen co-op, co-op online, or regular online (aka multiplayer online).

I actually bought this to play split screen LAN, too bad it doesn't support it.

The game will not use up the entire screen size in split-screen mode.

And an upside to World at War over Modern Warfare is that offline, split screen, campaign co-op is available so that you can play with friends or family

The MAIN issue for me is the lack of SPLIT-SCREEN ONLINE MULTIPLAYER!!!!we want to team up and fight others online !!!

4 player split screen multiplayer is loads of fun though, too bad we can't link up 2 PS3's and have 8 people for more mayhem.
