A great starter portrait lens for anyone without breaking the bank!

I took this lens to Yosemite with me, and I think it takes good landscape photos as well as portrait photos

This lens is plenty sharp, fast, and makes a fairly good portrait lens on crop cameras.

The wider the aperture (thus lower the f-stop) the more background you can blur (bokeh) at closer focal lengths in order to produce flattering portraits with a focus on the subject

This nifty fifty is all you need for beautiful portrait photography, and shooting beautiful pictures in low light

I wasn't going to get one of these since they changed to the plastic mount, but now that the STM has come out with metal and slightly improved image quality, I thought it would make a good wide portrait lens in limited situations (I shoot FF).

For only a little over $100 you have a gorgeous wide aperture lens that allows you to take beautiful portraits with the shallow depth of field that my 18-35mm did not

Yes, it's a fixed lens, so no zoom is possible, but that's totally fine, as the focal length is perfect distance for GREAT portraits and bokeh is unbelievable for the price.

An STM model of the older Plastic Fantastic, this takes in light brilliantly, is wonderfully fast, and while the zoom is louder than I'd expect from an STM, it's a great little lens that creates amazing portraits.

I cannot stop raving about it's quality, well I am a beginner DSLR user, but this lens just gives amazing portrait snaps, it looks so professional and so much better than the kit lens, of course keep in mind that its not a zoom lens.

This is a great lens for sharp portrait pictures - it creates a really nice "bokeh"; so everything in the background is blurred while the subject is incredibly focused

So things like a sea turtle release (from personal experience) or something like an event where you're restricted as to how close you can get... not the lens for it unless you're right at the perfect distance.

This lens makes you work (as there is no zoom) to get the best shot possible, which is a great situation to find yourself in if you're just starting out.
