• Reviews around aperture (2.71 of 5)

    Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens

    • We do have a little be of Chromatic Aberration, but nothing we can’t fix in post and it is quite easy to get flares with this lens, especially if you knock its aperture down
    • It isn't the fastest aperture but in nice light this thing does the job
    • I like to shoot long exposures, so the slower aperture is fine for me
    • This helps to make up for the fact it is not a super fast (wide aperture) lens.
    • Yes, it is rather slow aperture-wise, so it's not so great for low light stuff or anything, but it is so useful
    • I sometimes miss wider aperture, but then again - remember the price
    • In the same price range you can get an older model lens, with USM motor (or no motorized AF at all), but sharper glass and/or more aperture instead
    • I also dont like the small aperture since i cant really use it for video at night
    • Because we’ve got such a wide angle lens and relatively slow aperture, it’s quite difficult to get any sort of out of focus area
    • Yes, it is rather slow aperture-wise, so it's not so great for low light stuff or anything, but it is so useful
    • I like to shoot long exposures, so the slower aperture is fine for me
    • The primary negative is the slow speed and the variable aperture--but for the price, what can you expect?
    • The USM lens has 4mm of reach, 1-stop faster aperture at 10mm, better build, distance scale, sturdy metal mount and faster AF
    • The aperture is not great and if you want to zoom in and out while shooting video, you basically have to lock the aperture at 5.6 to avoid the brightness changing.
    • BAD: Maximum Aperture.
    • Maximum aperture is not an issue since I am usually shooting at f8-f11 to maximize depth of field while avoiding diffraction softness (a function of the APS format, not the lens.)
    • so, the lens came undamaged and I would recommend this lens to any vlogger as it gives a wide angle on an APS-C body and to me that is essential for vloggers
    • Not as well corrected as I'd like, but it's a cheap way to get into wide angle shooting for your crop sensor bodies.
    • It performs just as good as, if not better than, the Canon EF 10-22mm for less than half the price
    • Bought this lens for landscape obviously and I loved the 10mm as it's hard to find anything around that for this cheap
    • While it's not quite as sharp as I would like, it has decent quality, focuses quickly, and a great price.
    • I personally don’t consider it a drawback as it can lead to some very creative shots.
