• Reviews around barrel distortion (1.95 of 5)

    Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens

    • Both have the same drawbacks (CA, barrel distortion, ghosting), so neither has an edge there.
    • I dont like the barrel distortion at 10mm which kinda goes away at 12mm
    • (See attached bedroom picture.)It took me a little longer to notice the next drawback, but reviewing my photos after shoots, I was seeing that the lens has considerable barrel distortion in certain shots, probably mostly at the wider focal lengths
    • There's barrel distortion at the wide end but fades towards 18mm
    • Canon 5D, Canon 20D, 300HS, Hero 3 + Black, Hero 4 BlackI could talk about vignetting, and barrel distortion, and edge to edge sharpness, but the only one I have ever really cared about is Chromatic Aberration which is VERY well controlled on this lens.
    • This is not worth a star off since it should be expected that a lens this wide has barrel distortion, and the amount this lens has is comparable to other lenses in its class.
    • Along the same lines as CA, every ultra-wide has some barrel distortion; it’s kind of the point of this type of lens.
    • CONS: barrel distortion, chromathic aberrations, manual
    • Barrel distortion is almost non-existent, even at the shortest focal length
    • Also note that the barrel distortion on a UWA gives a funhouse mirror effect on portraits of people when up close (giant noses).
    • It has a teensy bit of barrel distortion (cry about it) and the vignetting is pretty heavy at f/4.5 (it's already well controlled at f/5.6)-Performance at 18mm is pretty weak.
    • You can easily fix vignetting, and a lot of the times, you crop out barrel distortion, so that isn't a big deal to me
    • There is modest barrel distortion at the wide end that is easily corrected in DPP.
    • so, the lens came undamaged and I would recommend this lens to any vlogger as it gives a wide angle on an APS-C body and to me that is essential for vloggers
    • Not as well corrected as I'd like, but it's a cheap way to get into wide angle shooting for your crop sensor bodies.
    • It performs just as good as, if not better than, the Canon EF 10-22mm for less than half the price
    • Bought this lens for landscape obviously and I loved the 10mm as it's hard to find anything around that for this cheap
    • While it's not quite as sharp as I would like, it has decent quality, focuses quickly, and a great price.
    • I personally don’t consider it a drawback as it can lead to some very creative shots.
    • Great little lens will worth it better than the L lens for cheaper price L
    • I just wish I could afford the better lens(s)
