Lens it comes with is a great starter lens for any standard video, zoom on this lens is fast but not far.

I got this because it was the newest camera at the time, thinking if i got a good lens it could compare to a full frame camera

The kit lens is also a good lens

Buy the BODY-ONLY and find yourself a better lens

so it is less intimidating and obvious for people around me and also makes it easier to fit in a small bag while still being a full DSLR so that I can use an appropriate lens for the situation.

There are a few negatives and the most obvious one is the miserable lens that comes with the camera (Canon 18-55mm).
