If you frequently need to make different amounts of coffee, or if you frequently switch from a dark roast to a light roast and back again, I would highly recommend you get a french press.
-
this thing took my reasonably fresh roasted (about 2 weeks "old") beautiful dark roast coffee and turned it into tea
-
I use a rounded tablespoon of a good, medium roast coffee per brewed cup.
-
If you don't have one, I would say pick one up with a box a square white filters, a quality grinder, and some fresh roasted coffee.
-
It really smoothes out the bitterness of darker roasts

At home I have been brewing Ruta Maya Coffee Dark Roast, which I believe is roasted locally here in Austin, Texas

The Chemex difference is in the elimination of the bitter after taste.◦Ruta Maya Shade Grown Dark Roast◦Jamaica Blue Mountain (Starbucks Reserve)

Great invention, but filters out some of the oils that make dark roast so nice

The perfect cup is 20oz hot water over 4 rounded tablespoons of dark roast coffee.

Recently, I tried a fancy roast in a french press and it was nothing compared to the coffee my Chemex puts out

This review brought to you by the Chemex and Jittery Joes Espresso Blend, Dark Roast 12oz Whole Bean

Comparing the Ruta Maya Dark Roast Automatic drip (which I used to think was good) with my Chemex version is like comparing std TV to HD TV

I'm having fun trying local roasts as well as some roasts from Whole Foods (try the Haitian coffees - Cafe Kreyol)

Some say brew a darker roast at a lower temperature and a lighter roast at a higher temperature.
-
This makes an excellent cup of dark-roast drip coffee, and it's very easy to clean
-
That is not to say dark roasts will taste bad from a Chemex, I've just found more success with lighter, more subtle roasts
-
My favorite coffees are Trader Joe's Wake Up Blend beans , this is medium roast, super smooth with some sweetness
-
Although I don't like darker roasts or full bodied coffee in the French Press, these taste better to me in the Chemex because it gives the Chemex more flavor

This thing looks good when it's new, but the wooden finish deteriorates as it gets wet
-
Extremely disappointed as now I'm back to the drawing board as to what new coffeemaker to get.
-
This is a beautiful as it is functional
-
It is every bit as good as it's reputation demands
-
I laugh often because people will comment on my fancy coffee-maker (yes, I went for the wood collar), when it is actually about as primitive as it gets.
-
The wooden collar protects you from the heated glass as you're pouring, which is a nice addition as well
-
The filter papers, though pricy, work exactly as they should
-
The handle could be just a little bit bigger, as it's sometimes a little hard to grab a hold of, but besides that it's great

But I like this a

I love the3 cup as it is perfect for one❤️

Since I make 10 cups, these last for 4-5 days, and the coffee is as "fresh" as when it was originally made.

dripping into a clean filter(s) and5
