At higher concentrations chlorhexidine is a bactericide (kills bacteria); at low concentrations it is used at a bacteriostat (stops bacteria from reproducing, while not necessarily killing them).

But as you can see, it has multiple uses and doesn't harm your pets or isn't bad for them when you mop the floor and they walk on it and then go lick their paw
