Have to take the batteries out to make it stop making static noises; the volume control did not help.

They make so much loud beeping and static noise no matter what channel you try that it's too annoying to leave them on, so they don't get used

so you don't have to say "over" every time you finish talking; auto-squelch to shut off weak transmissions or unwanted noise due to terrain or if you've reached your maximum range limit; maximum range extender option (which just means you turn off auto-squelch to let in those weaker transmissions); and VOX, which enables the walkie-talkie to transmit whenever you speak, so you don't even have to push the talk button
