We really like these Cobra walkie talkies & feel that the quality is far superior to the Midland set
Last summer, I reviewed a different brand of Walkie Talkie, and I found it lacking as to the distance you could communicate between the sets, so I thought this water-proof, rugged model might be a better fit for me, as we live next to the river.
They are solid, strong, reliable walkie talkies -- you can walk and talk with them.
They are Walkie talkies, fancy Walkie talkies, but Walkie talkies nonetheless
(like they always do).Other than those two issues, I think these are perfectly fine walkie talkies for the money
The set below this is very feature limited and the sets above add some features like vibrate, LED's and a slightly longer range.
The little LED flashlight feature worked fine for use in a pinch
While not in use, these Cobra ACXT645 walkie-talkies will go in a power saving mode, which is a good feature

The LED flashlight is located on the bottom (base) of the unit and is activated using a button just beneath the talk button.

The radio also has an easy to use LED flashlight, which is handy when camping!Other than the expected short range when used in town, this more than meets

I'm excited to try the VOX feature for hands free use with a headset
We gave them to our Granddaughters that will get some good use of them.
An alternative use is the storm radio warning, good if you are out in the park on a picnic or something, or maybe it's time to take the boat back to shore.
I don't know about you, but when I take my laptop into the field I have more important uses for
Someday soon we hope that GMRS use will be open for unlicensed use

This is a very feature-rich walkie, so be ready to spend some time in the included user's manual (which is well-written).

Work well range not bad get a couple miles in residential area better in open and wooded places, good sound quality, bought on sale good price.
FLT Walkie Talkie set is good physical quality, come packed with a lot of features, and work great outside in the woods, but are not very useful in town
Horrible sound quality and range.
I am VERY impressed with the quality and extra features available now.
Sound quality is marginal, but for the price point they're well worth it.
They are well made and seem to be water proof (or at least water resistant) and have some really nice features (weather radio, flashlight, etc)
These radios work well on flat clear ground up to about 2miles
I love the weather radio and it comes with tons of privacy settings and a flashlight.
I expect some static and dead spots in woody and mountainous terrain, but these radios are exceptionally bad

We got a clear signal about 5 miles away but after that we didn't get a signal

I hoped it was simply a matter of the receivers not working, or cancelling out, the signals when they're right next to each other
Even though I live in the city limits and about 5 miles away, the range of these (up to 37 miles in the country, but a lot less in large building areas like downtown) is enough to give a clear signal.
Using the High Power Output with the GMRS frequencies does improve the signal, but if you are in hilly terrain, or forests, or even in an area with high humidity, the distance between the two Walkie Talkies will be negatively impacted.
Things I don't like: Unnecessary FCC license rules and fees.
KYV-5151 was my dad's call sign from his FCC license (they no longer give them out anymore, although the Cobra ACXT1035R manual makes it appear that you need one - you don't, the FCC automagically issues them to all citizens as a "rule."
These were awesome to ha e on the cruise ship
I don't want to even guess how many people out there use these and have no idea they are violating the rules

so you don't have to say "over" every time you finish talking; auto-squelch to shut off weak transmissions or unwanted noise due to terrain or if you've reached your maximum range limit; maximum range extender option (which just means you turn off auto-squelch to let in those weaker transmissions); and VOX, which enables the walkie-talkie to transmit whenever you speak, so you don't even have to push the talk button
Have to take the batteries out to make it stop making static noises; the volume control did not help.

They make so much loud beeping and static noise no matter what channel you try that it's too annoying to leave them on, so they don't get used
