Great scanner, walkie talkie but not useful for emergencies.
This is a great little scanner buy the battery is totally dead under 1yr.
This radio works great for ham bands, works great as a scanner, and my understanding is that it IS type certified and can be used for business frequencies legally too.
I bumped it up another star as they had good communication with me and said they will send out a replacement charger
And as a bonus, this can be used as a scanner, without ever using it as a HAM radio
For the price it is good, reception is good, and battery life is great
this product is a very poor quality, the reception is very bad, we use it in a store that have basement and mezzanine 1500SFthey falling apart, i dont understand how this product was in the best selling product , i will NEVER go by amazon recommendation again.
reception is great with an aftermarket 14.5 inch antenna
i use this on the construction sight compared to my old radio that was bulky and always lost reception
Reception and transmitting are both good with the stock antenna
I have a couple of these now, they are great little radios and work awesome with VHF, I use them for desert riding to keep in communication with the rest of the pack of vehicles.
They are very fragile, and I have gone through three, and something always fails relatively quickly, either a button stops working or the battery drain instantly, or the mic just stops working without a PTT.Tired of buying and having to replace.
already quit working battery wont change and it quit working biggest rip off out there no body to contact to fix probelm
The second radio worked really well, but the down arrow doesn't always work

My main complaints are the lack of information given on this huge complex ordeal that is "two way radio", and also the charging bay it comes with is absolute cheap quality and is slow at charging

Very happy with this radio, I used to work in a radio shop where the least expensive radios started around 200 dollars and up for hand held radios, so for the price, this IS a great deal

For only $10 more than this radio there are kits that include an extended range antenna, the software and the cable and of course the radio which is a great deal
for $30 it's a deal as a cheap radio but I wouldn't trust my life to it
It's odd spending nearly as much as you did on the radio as you do the accessories, but that also shows what a good value the radio really is (because the accessories sure don't feel inflated).As for the best way of programming these
The accessories are dirt cheap, which includes antennas, battery's, program cords, etc
Excellent price, made well, charger, accessory clip & ear piece included, shipping & expected delivery were spot on
The 4-5 watts on these helps a lot and the cheap accessories make for really nice setups vs what you get with the other named alternatives

Also the 9th BaoFeng I bought the audio cuts out allot and has trouble locking to the signal because of the audio constantly shutting off it hurts my ears with the ear piece.

It does have the capability of listening to some emergency services, weather, and even the railroads
I use it when in the back country and great tool to pick up feeds on severe weather here in Colorado.
The fm combined with the weather band makes this radio extremely useful to monitor weather alerts and other emergencies
Things to think about: 1. buy the extra battery, the single battery that comes with it can wear out in a little over 24 hours and very cold weather shortens the charge.
