Reviews around size (5.00 of 5)

  • The smaller size is much more convenient at work, stays out of the way.
  • I like the size of the smaller antenna but am looking at getting the longer one
  • Love the size and the amount of power it gives...need another one soon
  • The compact size is great for portability but reaching out is disappointing.
  • Size is good and the included charger seems to to the job.

Reviews around price (4.56 of 5)

  • Great little radio for new or first time hams.. some nice features.. good price..
  • This is a quality dual band Transceiver sold at a dirt cheap price
  • It is inconvenient to keep replacing radios however, the one that works is an amazing little radio for a very cheap price.
  • Price is great for a starter unit that is programmable.

Reviews around scanner (4.54 of 5)

  • Great scanner, walkie talkie but not useful for emergencies.
  • This is a great little scanner buy the battery is totally dead under 1yr.
  • This radio works great for ham bands, works great as a scanner, and my understanding is that it IS type certified and can be used for business frequencies legally too.
  • I bumped it up another star as they had good communication with me and said they will send out a replacement charger
  • And as a bonus, this can be used as a scanner, without ever using it as a HAM radio

  • For the price it is good, reception is good, and battery life is great
  • this product is a very poor quality, the reception is very bad, we use it in a store that have basement and mezzanine 1500SFthey falling apart, i dont understand how this product was in the best selling product , i will NEVER go by amazon recommendation again.
  • reception is great with an aftermarket 14.5 inch antenna
  • i use this on the construction sight compared to my old radio that was bulky and always lost reception
  • Reception and transmitting are both good with the stock antenna

Reviews around range (4.42 of 5)

  • Range can be limited, would recommend an extended antenna, especially if you're trying to communicate with anyone from 1970 or earlier
  • The radio has hardly any range, less than a mile, not happy with this purchase at all.
  • Range is not that good, should of bought a more expensive one
  • The range is better than my cheap Motorola, but not as good as advertised
  • Without an external antenna or an upgraded antenna the range is fairly limited, but at only 5 watts total output, you're not expecting much.

Reviews around work (4.33 of 5)

  • I have a couple of these now, they are great little radios and work awesome with VHF, I use them for desert riding to keep in communication with the rest of the pack of vehicles.
  • They are very fragile, and I have gone through three, and something always fails relatively quickly, either a button stops working or the battery drain instantly, or the mic just stops working without a PTT.Tired of buying and having to replace.
  • already quit working battery wont change and it quit working biggest rip off out there no body to contact to fix probelm
  • The second radio worked really well, but the down arrow doesn't always work
  • Very nice radios work great range is pretty good battery life last over 8

Reviews around quality (4.32 of 5)

  • This was an amazing price and the quality is really good.
  • The sound quality is good, and the radio gets plenty loud enough
  • Overall a great radio for if your going to be using a mic because the speaker is poor quality
  • I bumped it up another star as they had good communication with me and said they will send out a replacement charger
  • My main complaints are the lack of information given on this huge complex ordeal that is "two way radio", and also the charging bay it comes with is absolute cheap quality and is slow at charging

Reviews around deal (4.18 of 5)

  • Without this feature, you loose a great deal of flexibility
  • Very happy with this radio, I used to work in a radio shop where the least expensive radios started around 200 dollars and up for hand held radios, so for the price, this IS a great deal
  • Without this feature, you loose a great deal of flexibility
  • For only $10 more than this radio there are kits that include an extended range antenna, the software and the cable and of course the radio which is a great deal
  • for $30 it's a deal as a cheap radio but I wouldn't trust my life to it

Reviews around way (3.99 of 5)

  • For the price, it's a nice cheap way to get your feet wet learning about the 2m and 70cm bands, how to use pl tones, and listen in on local repeaters.
  • I am now a General class licensee, and in my opinion, this inexpensive radio is a great way to get started.
  • If you do get this radio, the best way to program it is to use the free software CHIRP and an inexpensive programming cable.
  • It's about the least expensive way for a new ham to get on the air.
  • Decided to buy one of these as a cheap way to get into actually using my license on a regular basis.

Reviews around thing (3.81 of 5)

  • Great little thing, good buy for $25 check it out for yourself.
  • I would not use this for a primary radio but having a few of these on hand for emergency service would not be a bad thing
  • Sure they're cheap but not even a cheap thing should just randomly fail without ever being moved.
  • Well what can I say this thing is solid and works great
  • When emergency strikes, the most important thing is communication

Reviews around manual (2.45 of 5)

  • The written manual is hopeless, but there are ton of videos in YouTube on how to set them up
  • I gave it four stars for the one reason that the manual is useless
  • light weight, small and excellent range.we use it professionally as well as for enjoyment.licences are required for these radios

Reviews around accessory (2.39 of 5)

  • It's odd spending nearly as much as you did on the radio as you do the accessories, but that also shows what a good value the radio really is (because the accessories sure don't feel inflated). As for the best way of programming these
  • The accessories are dirt cheap, which includes antennas, battery's, program cords, etc
  • Excellent price, made well, charger, accessory clip & ear piece included, shipping & expected delivery were spot on
  • The 4-5 watts on these helps a lot and the cheap accessories make for really nice setups vs what you get with the other named alternatives
  • Buy more than one, buy a spare antenna or two, a battery, a charger... all the accessories are dirt cheap

Reviews around ear (2.33 of 5)

  • It hurts my ears
  • light weight, small and excellent range.we use it professionally as well as for enjoyment.licences are required for these radios
  • Also the 9th BaoFeng I bought the audio cuts out allot and has trouble locking to the signal because of the audio constantly shutting off it hurts my ears with the ear piece.
  • Not as easy as on the old Japanese radio
  • I bumped it up another star as they had good communication with me and said they will send out a replacement charger

Reviews around weather (2.18 of 5)

  • It does have the capability of listening to some emergency services, weather, and even the railroads
  • I use it when in the back country and great tool to pick up feeds on severe weather here in Colorado.
  • The fm combined with the weather band makes this radio extremely useful to monitor weather alerts and other emergencies
  • Things to think about: 1. buy the extra battery, the single battery that comes with it can wear out in a little over 24 hours and very cold weather shortens the charge.

Reviews around clip (1.95 of 5)

  • The battery on the 82 has cheap metal clips that catch and are a pain
  • Excellent price, made well, charger, accessory clip & ear piece included, shipping & expected delivery were spot on
  • The radio works great but the clip in the back is not made very strong
  • the keypad doesn't work the clip was bent and one of the batteries was missing a prong

Reviews around pulse (1.95 of 5)

  • I gave it a 2-star rating due to the VERY annoying rythmic static pulse it continually generated
  • The different LED’s are nice
  • I know it wasn't the radio Itself because I tried another earpiece with it and all was well...except for that god-awful static pulse

Reviews around noise (1.95 of 5)

  • They suffer from squelch tail at the end of transmissions (static noise).
  • The different LED’s are nice
  • Too much noise, key pad number and letters were erased easily.
  • Amazing i get all the channels i need but a little bit of a bitch to program
  • Leaves a nasty squelch noise when you un-key over repeaters.

Reviews around squelch (1.87 of 5)

  • Leaves a nasty squelch noise when you un-key over repeaters.
  • The squelch is a problem as it came, but there is a website that has a program to change the range and it now works well.
  • at the moment my review is its ok. gets a lot of interference breaking the 9 squelch.
  • The different LED’s are nice
  • It takes finesse to program from the keypad and the squelch settings are useless but it is a $30 HT.
