    • I would like to say to CyberPower that I have owned many UPSes over the years, mostly APC but also several from other manufacturers and my last 3 have all been from CyberPower, and have bought still more for my clients and none of them have ever had a particularly strong smell.
    • Some other reviews also complain of a strange plastic smell when you first use them
    • The UPS I received does not have a strong smell that any other reviews mentioned
    • I did smell some funny smells, when it was charging for the first time

    • Just beware that you may have to wait some time to get rid of the annoying smell, if it occurs in the unit you buy.
    • As other reviewers have noted, the device gives off a noxious plastic smell
    • I haven't experienced any of the issues described in negative reviews, such as smell, smoke, et. cet.
    • However, the CP1500PFCLCD unit I purchased in November of 2016 has always emitted a strong plastic smell, especially when the UPS is charging/discharging.
    • The smell is just so strong, thick, and persistent
    • The second thing I noticed after I opened it was that it had a strong smell to it, after I plugged it in the smell went away after about a day
    • For an enclosed space I would give it only 2 stars, at least for the first two weeks, as the smell was that strong
    • The smell was so bad it would probably kill someone or make them sick if they were stuck in a room with it
    • For example, I don't like the smell of Brussels sprouts or cooked carrots, but I have zero concern for my health when smelling them
    • It's airing in the garage by a vent with a fan for a few days to see if this disappears many others have complained just search smell if it doesn't cure in a week it will have to go back not sure what happened on this
    • My guess is that many units of this product were shipped without the toxic smell, and something changed along the way
    • I'm knocking off one star (would be 1/2 if I could) for the excessive chemical smell, which is awful at first but got down to a tolerable level after a few days.
    • There was a pretty rough chemical smell coming from this after
    • Since I'm not in the room with my computer all day, the smell did not cause me a problem.
    • A very, very strong chemical smell
    • I was excited to have my first sine wave UPS and the price as attractive, therefore I decided to ignore the many complaints in the reviews about the strong, perhaps toxic, smell
    • It mainly talks about toys and backpacks, but I believe that the awful smell from rubberized plastic goods they are talking about is the same smell we are talking about here for my CyberPower UPS.Again, I do not have a chemistry background, but this smell literally fails the "smell test".
    • Still smoke and smell and the case was hot to touch.
    • I did not have any issues with a bad smell coming from my UPS while it was charging
    • The problem here is that it is a very strong industrial smell that most people would agree "smells like something not good for you".
    • I traced the cords to the cyber power and it was burning hot to the touch and emanating a toxic burning smell
    • The one star deducted was for the really strong solvent smell that persisted for several days once it was unboxed
    • For those reading this review, I recommend that you do not purchase this product until the noxious smell problem has been resolved.
    • Both emitted a loud, brief low-pitched fizzing noise, and emitted some smoke with an acrid electrical burning smell
    • Yes, the smell is awful out of the box, but let it air out for a
    • I don't know if it will out-gas for a little while and lose the smell, but I can't live with this thing inside the house.
    • The unit has strong electric burning smell everything connected to it burned out
    • The smell has improved over time, but it's still too strong for indoor use, even from across the room.

    • Now to try and put up with the nasty smell a bit longer
    • As others have said it had a horrible smell
    • Also no bad smell while charging or running
    • I compared this unit heavily against much more expensive APC SMT1500 and SMC1500,which are MUCH bigger also (maybe three times the body size and twice as heavy, they are more like a automobilebattery.... but i think the APC SMT1500 might be the "gold standard" in these units... although even it hadusers complaining on the cheap plastic/rubber smell also, i believe, or the SMC1500
    • Smell is like burning plastic.
    • Pretty crazy plastic-fume smell coming off a 1350VA unit that arrived this weekend.

    • It started out with a faint electrical smell back around March

    • We had a huge surge that burned out the APC I had and damaged the (5-yr-old) Cyberpower computer hooked to it -- I was able to pull of all my data (all backed up like crazy anyway) off -- but suffered through the horrid smell of electrical burning as I was doing it.
    • However only giving it 4 stars due to the noxious smell that others have also reported

    • "Ever wonder why some rubberized plastic goods made in China have that awful smell
    • The unit has strong electric burning smell everything connected to it burned out

    • I have not experienced any of the issues other users have reported concerning smoking/failing/bad smells etc
    • Horrible smell from this unit, I could smell it even through two boxes it was shipped in
    • but I would not buy it again just because this one has such a strong chemical smell
    • Others have complained about the smell coming from the unit, and I gave it about 6 months to air out but every time the internal fan comes on (this will happen during a power outage) it makes the room overwhelming smell like a cross between dead fish and burnt plastic.
    • Great UPS - absolutely horrible, chocking smell
    • With two(2) of these plugged into the exact same duplex outlet, the bad one(s) would cycle randomly, while the good one(s) would work fine, so this appears not to be a utility power problem.
    • I would suggest CyberPower hire one of the many now unemployed English professors and have the guy write up a decent User’s Maual in the tradition of APC.
