I would like to say to CyberPower that I have owned many UPSes over the years, mostly APC but also several from other manufacturers and my last 3 have all been from CyberPower, and have bought still more for my clients and none of them have ever had a particularly strong smell.

I compared this unit heavily against much more expensive APC SMT1500 and SMC1500,which are MUCH bigger also (maybe three times the body size and twice as heavy, they are more like a automobilebattery.... but i think the APC SMT1500 might be the "gold standard" in these units... although even it hadusers complaining on the cheap plastic/rubber smell also, i believe, or the SMC1500

Others have complained about the smell coming from the unit, and I gave it about 6 months to air out but every time the internal fan comes on (this will happen during a power outage) it makes the room overwhelming smell like a cross between dead fish and burnt plastic.

With two(2) of these plugged into the exact same duplex outlet, the bad one(s) would cycle randomly, while the good one(s) would work fine, so this appears not to be a utility power problem.

I would suggest CyberPower hire one of the many now unemployed English professors and have the guy write up a decent User’s Maual in the tradition of APC.
