Amazon won't replace the defective unit because of "hazardous materials" or some such nonsense

Unit that I received is defective (doesn't charge properly and frequently goes into battery back-up mode with no loss of power) and, due to the hazardous materials classification, it cannot be returned to Amazon even though it was sold by Amazon

Amazon will not accept it as a return because it contains "hazardous" material, presumably the battery.

Works as it should, keeps my network running when the power goes out which keeps all of my home automation devices happy.

I don't really think it would hurt the unit, but this one has an audible alarm that sounds if it is being overdrawn, as well as when it is operating from battery power

I wish I had ordered a higher voltage since you are limited as to what you can use it for.

I have experienced one power outage since having this, the system worked (as it should) flawlessly, safely shutting down my computer, modem, and monitor.

So it's not even a power surge that killed it - as far as we can tell it's just the power on/off button that is broken or the battery that won't re-charge.

This is one of those products that performs so well, you even forget it's there, working as it should.
