Looks like there IS an official device for the Smartthings hub, but it's only for the siren.

In order for you to use the right device type you'll have to log into your Smartthings API and swap the device type

After digging deeper, I found that Samsung Smartthings does not support this device and I never could get the new smartthings software to pair with it.

It also has a very good "official" device handler for SmartThings meaning good support which is another reason I chose this one over some of the others.
