The thing is, the game can't distinguish between your bad driving and the AI's bad driving

this looks and plays like i'm playing on a PS3.The AI is constantly crashing into you which often makes you run into barriers and such that slow you down or make you crash

But if you can tolerate the lack of options, lack of features, lack of customization, lack of replays, lack of split-screen, relatively small selection of cars, the sometimes broken servers, and the brutal AI, then what you have is a good looking racing game with solid controls.

There are many complaints that the AI is braindead and rams into you, but these complaints are mistaken, the AI does in fact try to avoid you, but unlike most other races which allow AI cars to steer unnaturally fast, the AI in this game is limited by how fast the car can turn, so as long as you aren't cutting off the AI and then hitting the breaks, they won't ram you much

Next, the gameplay... pretty good to start as you begin with slow hatchbacks and the AI is reasonable, so it's easy to get your feet wet and jump right in and pretty much dominate the races if you have any experience with other racing games, the handling and controls are easily adaptable,

I think the penalties are just lazy short cuts to actually improving the AI, Driving physics, and track design

Some gamers maybe turned off by the AI behavior who can crash into you without getting the same penalties you do, or causing you to crash into other cars resulting in a penalty
