If I had been planning on using the bad batteries when I really needed them, and if I hadn't checked them first, it could have been quite inconvenient to discover I had no power at that point

To remedy this, I place the battery in the bay and then move the "spring loaded" point up to the base of the battery and shove a folded up scrap of paper between the point and the unit, so that it holds the battery in tight and can charge.

Used it to rejuvenate some completely discharged old AA ni-mh batteries, not expecting much success but after charging then using the discharge function and charging them again the batteries are fine.

I threw out all my Energizer rechargeables because I thought the batteries were bad.
