The MP4 format is much better than the files from a cheaper device I was using and the quality seems indistinguishable from the tapes themselves

I read somewhere that people were having problems using this device on Windows 8, but has to be more than that because it wouldn't even send a device response to the PC Hardware

I have only used this device for saving NTSC video, and it works very well for that

Other than that, this is a great device for digitizing those old VHS tapes.

Using cheaper capture devices, the sound was often delayed by a second or two, whenever the video ran longer than a few minutes, reminding me of the scene in Kung-Pow where even a dog's barking was delayed by a second.
