I bought it because of the large ink tanks.

First, before you start the printer, you need to don rubber gloves, open the ink bottles and pour their contents into the ink tanks

I love the ink tank

A few months ago, one of the ink tanks ran dry, and I had to run several cleaning cycles to get the printer back on-board

I bought it to print pictures because of the ink tanks

It took me about an hour to get the printer unboxed, ink tanks filled (A note of caution, you will want to use plastic gloves and have paper towels on hand!), run through the ink charging process, setup the Wi-Fi, and load the drivers on my PC

The ink tanks on this printer are huge, and it comes with a full second set of ink refills

Only then can you power up, but before you can go any further, you need to wait 20 minutes or so for the ink tanks to charge

After several months, I'm maybe 1/3 through the first ink tanks.

After getting the printer out of the box and removing the myriad little blue tape strips, I was able to fill up the ink tanks with no issue.

When I saw that this printer uses an ink tank based system I immediately jumped on it

The unit comes with four ink tanks (Black, Yellow, Cyan and Red).

Blue and clear packing/sealing tape still on the unit, ink tanks dry and clearly never used

When it came time to fill the ink tanks, I put an old towel under the tanks, put on my latex gloves, had paper towels and a trash bag ready just in case.

I love the large ink tanks and that it can hold up to 500 sheets of paper.

Do be careful not to spill ink on anything you care about, but we didn't find it hard to fill the ink tanks

Filing the ink tanks definitely takes longer than using ink cartridges and requires you to take care not to make a mess

You need to take several pieces of tape and packing off, then get out some rubber gloves and fill the ink tanks, then wait 20 minutes, then set up the software

unless the ink deteriorates over time, I may well have ink remaining in the wells even after two years, which would be a great thing.
