Ernie Ball Cobalt Regular Slinky Set, .010-.046

    • They are not as nice in full warm tone as the pure nickels
    • Either pure nickel or these depending on your style at the moment
    • While it did seem to be a stronger output when playing amp-free, the tone just seemed to me a bit dull (low treble) compared to nickel plated steel
    • For shredding go cobalt... for warm/woman tone go PURE nickels (that's PURE folks!!).
    • However, for a warm bluesy tone I couldn't get anywhere close to my sound like I can with the pure nickels.
    • If money were no option, I'd probably move to these exclusively, but at roughly three times the price of good to great nickel strings, I'm not sure that they are good enough to justify the massive price premium.

    • They look and feel a little more rough (grayish) than nickel wound strings
    • Either pure nickel or these depending on your style at the moment.
    • They are very balanced and sound better not only for chords but in comparison to the Fender 3150SL, 8guage, pure nickel I've been using, they are much stronger for solos, as well

    • You may not be as sensitive as I
    • I am not a fan of these stings, I do not like how they are wrapped, they create too much drag on my fingers, they tarnish too fast (even when cleaning the strings after playing), and had the bottom E string unravel loose at the bridge and break while playing.
    • Sadly I didn't get a chance to try them out on my amp, because the Hi-E broke (see
    • High e string broke before meeting pitch.
    • Oh, and I don't break the E (9's) string any more
    • The low E string broke as soon as I got it in tune
    • In the set I used before this, the low E was dull; it didn't match the sound or the output of the other strings
