For one thing I have to keep the app open instead of say, Waze, which I prefer and which also provides me with real-time alerts to speed traps, as well

The Escort Live app seems like a waste of time and money though

At this point there are so many options that setting them on the detector itself is tough; but the app makes it very easy.

There is an app available for your phone that adds some features, but it costs five bucks a month.

Also when you download the escort live app it really makes the detector much easier to customize and will notify of radar/laser/speed traps/air patrol/red light cameras etc.. it's already saved me a few times !!
