If you are only going to have one Alexa type device, this is good enough, but if you want the other features available on the Echo Dot (Bluetooth, multi-room music, smart home groups that are Alexa-enabled, and the drop-in feature, as far as I know), you'll have to go with the Echo Dot

I am disappointed that the Genie currently does not support Drop In, but Eufy says it may be coming

It also doesn't support Drop In, which we use when the kids are playing in the bath together so we can keep an ear on them

I’m bummed that the Genie doesn’t support the Echo’s Drop-in feature too.

Does not support Alexa drop in feature, and the Alexa app does not recognize it

The much promised update to support drop in (for intercom) has yet to happen.
