I tried installing shims at the base of the battery thinking this might force the contacts to make a better connection, but after a couple of very weak test beeps, it would beep no more.

That being said the provided test button and resulting beep is very loud and crisp

It did emit a faint, short beep before quitting

Easy to install and has loud warning beep.

I will acknowledge that this smoke detector does work; I test it semi-annually and the beep is loud and clearly heard even far away in the home

I set one off in my kitchen roasting corn today and it has a good shrill beep
