After removing most of the foam tape adhesive, I then alternated between using Goo Gone adhesive remover on a rag and the plastic putty knife until the adhesive was gone (this took 20 to 30 minutes)

To do this, I used a heavy gauge 2" plastic putty knife.

Use a plastic putty knife as described previously.
