I live in a fairly rural area so this is expected, but every week or so I have to drive into Boston, and have had no problem whatsoever, in my vehicle or that of friends, getting and keeping a clear signal in a densely populated city
Finding this Griffin filled all of those requirements, along with the hope that it would actually transmit a good, clear signal
She used the auto scan feature to capture the best signal to use for the radio station for the fm transmitter and soon discovered that even on a short commute she would soon lose contact with the IPod due to station interference
Signal is great on road trips where there aren't a lot of radio stations, but not as great in the city, which is to be expected.
It lets you know if the signal is bad fair and excellent
this thing is great it will auto scan the 3 best channels in the area and preset them for you
This roadtrip sounds a lot better and even chooses the 3 best channels
Using the scan functionality, finding a good channel to use has been easy and I rarely have to scan for a new one in order to clarify the signal
The scanning feature is also lacking (I had much better luck selecting my own channels), and the adjustable arm needs more rigidity (my iPod constantly weighs it down to the point that it won't stay in place).

The cigarette lighter that powers the transmitter is positioned such that the iPhone blocks easy access to the radio controls and this became a problem when I needed to change channels while driving
The neck is not too stiff and I found it easy to adjust to a comfortable position that allowed easy access yet did not block my temperature controls, which I was concerned about since my lighter is very close to my controls
I am able to listen to music through the car speakers while accessing the GPS function and make a phone call, all hands free

Doesn't always pick up a good station, so he ends up switching the channel 4 or 5 times to get one with good reception
However, the FM transmitter is under powered and the Smartscan didn't find good stations for me.
(I'm having a much harder time finding a usable station than I had with the old one - it seems like this one is picking up stations that the old one couldn't, which makes the sound quality terrible).
but once you find a good station it is not bad for the most part.
Sometimes one is better than the other, but it is great not to have to manually search for another available station
One of the nicest features of this transmitter is that it has a semi-rigid arm for holding the iPhone/iPod, allowing you position it so you get optimal reception on your radio.
Of course there's always going to be brief patches of static but for the most part, my reception has been clear with this product.
In another car with the antenna on the back quarter panel and another with it on the roof in the rear, the reception is awful.
In one car with the antenna on the front quarter panel, the reception is not good but at least holds for more than a few blocks.
Doesn't always pick up a good station, so he ends up switching the channel 4 or 5 times to get one with good reception
I bought the latest version of the Roadtrip in the hopes that the sleek, compact, ergonomic design, clear high contrast display and gooseneck positioning system would solve my mobile iPod problems.
The design and concept are good, but it needs to be improved upon with a $65 price tag.
you will however see the apple nag screen that it is not designed for use with this device but just click ignore and off you go
Very well designed ergonomically in regards to the dock and flexible arm.
The gooseneck is great and the product is well designed for looks and comfort
I'm in the Greater New Orleans area & the roads are pretty bad
I've been using these FM frequencies, tuning devices for a long time, over some rough and bumpy roads and in some remote and vacant countries
It doesn't fit perfectly in your dc power outlet and if you drive over irregular road you will have to take your hands out of the steering wheel every 5 minutes to reconnect the device to turn your music on again
Not as many moving parts as my prior "Road Trip", which is nice, but harder to set up for play, especially in daylight.
