Great wood, beautifully grained, solid and heavy, good hinge, and a big sharp sound.
,It offers a nice crisp *slap* and is made beautifully; lovely smooth-grained hickory wood finished (as my wood-working father used to say) "soft as a baby's behind" and joined with a solid metal hinge.

It's well-made and has a nice finish on the wood, and doesn't require much more than a snap of the wrist to get a great sound.

Do note, like a previous reviewer stated, it does have a rather loud hinge

The hinge could be slightly quieter, although I imagine a drop of oil would probably fix that
