HooToo Wireless Travel Router, USB Port, High Performance- TripMate Nano (Not a Hotspot)

    • I bought this to stream mp3's off a standard external usb hard drive.
    • So, this is not a hard-drive-enclosure-to-NAS-converter
    • I love having easy mobile storage expansion, it's nice to be able to take any of my portable hard drives on a trip and have instant access to them from my phone
    • The reason I gave 4 star is that I found this USB port doesn't recognize my USB hard drives from Toshiba
    • I have connected a hard drive to the TripMate Nano, and it works as it should
    • I don't really travel, but wanted to use this to create an NAS with a portable hard drive
    • I don't know if mine is defective, but sometimes it simply won't load the videos that I have on a connected hard drive.
    • This is using a USB stick or USB hard drive
    • Even attach a hard-drive as a NAS to save pictures, or watch videos.
    • and I still could access my hard drives from the main router and stream my videos
    • Add a USB thumb/hard drive, the FileHub app for the ipad, and a USB charger...and like magic, the kids are happy (and quiet)
    • I can share a hard drive on the home network now, but even that is a bit too techie and not easy enough.
    • I easily hooked my sons Kindle fire and my iphone up and streamed movies from an external hard drive!
    • If you use a 2.5 inch or larger Hard Drive, you may need to power that drive with a separate power supply.
    • Maybe it is because these USB hard drives require power from the USB port of HooToo router
    • EXTERNAL STORAGE DEVICE (THUMB DRIVE, HARD DRIVE, ETC.)
    • Transmits the videos on my hard drive to my smart tv via DLNA and recently i moved to a new place where my wireless has not been strong enough for the laptop in my room and its been acting as a great wifi repeater
    • Love everything about it but when plugging in external hard drives it tends to not power it well enough or have issues either streaming or viewing items in drive.
    • Likewise giving them access to your network gives them full access to your hard drive.
    • We had to use a external power bank for the full size hard drive
    • I can also watch any of the 500 or so movies that I have on my portable hard drive
    • > 7200 RPM hard drive
    • I am very pleased to say this works beautiful for DLNA aka streaming content from a network hard drive, if you aren't familiar with DLNA
    • The USB port also supports my 1TB hard drive and allows me to access those files using an android dedicated program!I am extremely satisfied with this purchase and Hootoo's support was extremely quick in helping me with issues that arose while I updated the firmware
    • When I purchased this, I was hoping the accompanying app had an easy process for connecting to wireless networks, but it is only for accessing content if a USB hard drive is connected to the travel router
    • I've tried to use this capability and messed around with the machine for at least 8 hours, still to NO AVAIL, I cannot get the damn thing to connect my external hard drive with my computers via wifi.
    • I took a star off, because the app could be better, and streaming video through the app (from a hard drive/thumb drive) isn't great
    • I've mentioned earlier, won't show the contents of my 3TB hard drive even though the drive got it's own external power souce and I used my Anker 30W adapter to power the HooToo TripMate Nano Router.
    • It worked fine until I plugged in a western digital portable drive, then after a few seconds the lights went out and now it will not power up at all.
    • My problem with using a tablet without expandable storage has always been that doing so would make it incovenient at best to access the media on my many external hard drives which I've spent more than a decade accumulating.
    • To run the hard drive I did have to plug it into my laptop, but I it did work with my tablet power supply which is 2 amps
    • but it blocks the WAN port access capability, so I stayed with 018 to be able to maintain access the hard drive via wired LAN.
    • I was looking for a device that I could connect to my external hard drives and flash drives
    • A device that could stream media content easily from any of my external hard drives to any and all of my IOS devices, allow me to copy content to and from my IOS devices and USB hard drives, and function as a WiFi router and bridge?
    • But my primary reason for purchase was to use it as a wireless NAS by attaching an external hard drive to it
    • The app works great, and I had no problems accessing music and movies on my portable hard drive from my tablet on the go without needing any kind of internet connection
    • A call to HooToo tech support confirmed that the device requires a Windows compatible hard drive format in order to be able to read or write to the device.
    • Great little tool for anyone with an I-anything, I am able to hook up my one Terabyte portable hard drive with no issues at all, i don't mind hooking up a power pack to it since I always have a couple on me anyway
    • I am able to read and write to USB sticks or hard drive connected to it.
    • I was debating between this and a portable hard drive, or a wireless hard drive, but didn't know if the TripMate would serve the purpose of what I wanted to use it for which was to allow wireless access to a portable hard drive from a phone, tablet, or laptop without an internet connection
    • It supports the exFAT filesystem, which my external hard drive was running.
    • However, the USB port does not have the power output to handle an external portable hard drive
    • This HooToo TripMate is very handy and connected all USB storage which includes 4TB Seagate desktop expansion hard drive
    • The regular hard drive feels a bit slow over the wired connection to my desktop(wireless is for my mobile stuff)
    • Pros:lets me get all my files from a external hard drive 3.5 HDD externalexternal flash drives are more accessible than sd cardsCons:needs to be constantly plugged in for powerexternal hard drive needs to be plugged in for powerImprovements:If they can make one that has a battery pack installed and powerful enough to run atlease a 2.5 hdd external
    • Next to things i'm going to try is to see if i can stream using the full 128GB flash drive and why streaming from the external hard drive doesn't work (500gb is well under the 4TB spec)On a side note, I also bought the HooToo Titan because i wanted to use the same setup on an airplane.
    • I have tried it with 8GB flash drive, 1TB and 2TB portable hard drives
    • server). There is also a DLNA setting where you can select a specific folder on the hard drive to allow media sharing of that folder's contents.
    • You can access a portable hard drive connected to the device but the organization of the data could be a little better
    • My external hard drive (1.5TB, 2.5”) works flawlessly with the HooToo, The routing, firewall and port forwarding configuration options are not the most robust I've seen, but the file sharing and wireless bridging functionality make up for this, especially at this price.
    • but if you are at home and want to turn your external hard drive into a wireless drive then you can also just leave it connected to the wall adapter with the micro USB cable
    • You can access a portable hard drive connected to the device but the organization of the data could be a little better
    • With this device I'm able to connect a Western Digital MyPassport drive and push all photos and videos from my mobile devices to the hard drive via the WiFi connection

    • I have tried it with 8GB flash drive, 1TB and 2TB portable hard drives
    • I got this to connect a hard drive for backing up files and streaming music to my tablet.
    • Has a USB port which can be used to connect a hard drive with OpenWrt
    • I have over 100 videos on the hard drive, but sometimes all show up, and other times only 25 movies appear.
    • Do NOT use this product with a usb hard drive, even though it claims to support them.
    • In addition I plugged an external 1TB USB Hard Drive into the TripMate and I had instant network storage available.
    • However, the USB port does not have the power output to handle an external portable hard drive
    • all on one USB storage device (thumb drive or hard drive) and anyone connected to this portable Wi-
    • I copied a 325 meg file to a attached USB hard drive, and it took around 3 or 4 minutes.
    • I was debating between this and a portable hard drive, or a wireless hard drive, but didn't know if the TripMate would serve the purpose of what I wanted to use it for which was to allow wireless access to a portable hard drive from a phone, tablet, or laptop without an internet connection
    • Cool little item that powered up my Segate 1tb usb hard drive and was able to broadcast to my Galaxy S3 phone after I downloaded the free program for it.
    • Great little tool for anyone with an I-anything, I am able to hook up my one Terabyte portable hard drive with no issues at all, i don't mind hooking up a power pack to it since I always have a couple on me anyway
    • the "Roku Media Player" App installed (roku has limited video codecs and won't play many of my videos, but the TV and DVD player works on all of them).I use ES File Explorer on the android device to see the hard drive's files via the HooToo's IP address.
    • We've only tested the hard drive/jump drive sharing capabilities, and it works well.3.
    • A call to HooToo tech support confirmed that the device requires a Windows compatible hard drive format in order to be able to read or write to the device.
    • The app works great, and I had no problems accessing music and movies on my portable hard drive from my tablet on the go without needing any kind of internet connection
    • The unit will not detect any USB Hard drive or Flash drive installed.
    • I wanted to try to use an older external hard drive as an NAS drive for my iTunes music collection
    • It was really unstable when it was attached to 1 Tbyte hard drive
    • It's nice how they included a usb port on this which allows me to access my printer anywhere as long as I'm connected to this router or even access a hard drive like how other people are using it for
    • The unit will not:- Convert your external hard drive into a NAS, unless you want to work with their app, which I could not be bothered to.- Work as a router in a wired network in any capacity.- Provide any extra security.4
    • It is small enough when we go on vacation, I will take it and the drive so that as I take pictures, I can back them up to a USB hard drive or maybe a USB stick
    • It does seem to kinda crap out if you use it to NAS up an external hard drive for a long period of time so I wouldn't recommend it for that.
    • The USB port also supports my 1TB hard drive and allows me to access those files using an android dedicated program!I am extremely satisfied with this purchase and Hootoo's support was extremely quick in helping me with issues that arose while I updated the firmware
    • On a data transfer of a 1 GB file from the Macbook to the external hard drive, it took 13 minutes - this roughly means that the data transfer speed is 10 Mbit/s

    • Just connect this to your modem and broadcast as usual! As a bonus, you can even connect a hard drive or a memory card and create a mini server for your files
    • but it seems not able to support more than drive with my USB hub.
    • Picky on the power source when using full size hard drive
    • Two options in Windows 7: map a network drive or "add a network connection" to see the hard drives contents
    • One downside I notice is that it can be bulky having to connect a flash drive and external battery to it, but if you plan on leaving this at home, plugging it into a wall and hiding it from view can solve that problem, and an investment into a small flash drive, and/or the elite version can cut down on bulk too, but if you carry a bag on your travels, you can just as easily throw this, with the bulky flash drive and battery pack in there too
    • Kids can connect to it at stream movies from the hard drive I have set up
    • I leave it plugged in the car with an SSD hard drive so the kids can watch movies.
    • Usually, ...it works right out-of-the-box and can instantly become a file server for your iPad, or other Wireless Device(not just Apple, but Android, and Windows devices too)It creates another wireless network ( and Ethernet wired network ) so you can connect a Flash Drive, or even a Hard Drive, to it's USB port, and it will allow you to connect to it, thru your Tablet, Phone, Laptop, or Desktop by Ethernet, and/or Wireless connections
    • Literally plug in 32 gig USB thumb drive and power up to have a wifi hard drive.

    • I have zero issues with playing any of the multiple files I have on my hard drive
    • I don't really travel, but wanted to use this to create an NAS with a portable hard drive
    • This thing is garbage, slow speeds 2 to 2.5 mbps on the wireless when i had a hard drive hooked up to it made streaming HD movies skippy and laggy
    • I have connected a hard drive to the TripMate Nano, and it works as it should
    • I love having easy mobile storage expansion, it's nice to be able to take any of my portable hard drives on a trip and have instant access to them from my phone

    • All my laptops and iPads are able to access the hard drive and reading and writing files is fast.
    • I use this in my SUV with my amazon fire stick and a hard drive for local movies.
    • I use it with a USB hard drive as a small NAS to backup my computer
    • I have several portable USB hard drives but none of them are recognized

    • It is also great for sharing media via a thumb drive or hard drive, perfect for trips or even in the comfort of your own home.
    • I wasn't even using their cloud service, so requiring online login to access your own local HDDs was stupid unless the ID service stayed online, which it didn't.--I also have a number of NAS boxes that use internal (bare) hard drives, but those boxes are expensive and don't let you use existing USB HDDs.
    • and I have a 4TB USB hard drive connected.
    • Media files from a flash drive or portable drive on the USB port of the HooToo can be served to wireless clients.
    • Wanted it to share hotspot networks with my tablet and a portable hard drive
    • To my device I have connected a 2TB portable hard drive (no external power source type hard drive).
    • I found that usually a 2.5 inch drive will be powered well enough by the HooToo TripMate Nano if you're using a good enough 5v to USB adapter, or other 5v source, connected TO the TripMate Nano 5v INPUT.I tried my Western Digital 2.5 inch 1TB SATA-II Hard Drive, using a SATA-to-USB 3.0 adapter
    • I am abke to hook my 2 TB hard drive to it and use it as a wireless hard drive
    • It makes hard drives and thumb drives wireless but exposes your files to anyone with the password, the psswd can be changed if you know how, did not try
    • This with the portable hard drive saved me a little under $100 versus buying a wireless hard drive and I highly recommend it for any networking situation that you can experience on the go.
    • It works really well with a 1TB hard drive, I use it with my Galaxy Tab S to transfer large using the hootoo tripmate app
    • the three stars are for the great price the minus two is for the short range the network works, slow speed, and that it doesn't support all types of file to stream off a connected hard drive.
    • * A USB thumb drive works great too in place of the hard drive and you won't need the Y cable.
    • Have hard drive connected and iPads stream the movies via the inFuse App
    • USB flashes most worked: (2GB USB2, 8GB USB2 "didn't work", 32 GB USB3)USB portable drives
    • So you will be OK with pen drives or self-powered HDD enclosures, but it you have a mechanical USB-powered hard drive, the router will probably fail to provide enough juice to turn it on
    • Easy set up lets you add any external hard drives to your wireless network and access to your devices with the free app
    • Doesn't support usb hubs so connecting more than one hard drive at a time won't work
    • (1) Plug this into your home network router (2) connect a USB hard drive to the available UBS plugin on the HooToo and (3) connect your laptop to the hard drive and start backing up important files without plugging and unplugging external hard drives
    • I was looking for the auto back up of the photos from my personal devices (cell phone/ tablets etc) to connected hard drive
    • This with the portable hard drive saved me a little under $100 versus buying a wireless hard drive and I highly recommend it for any networking situation that you can experience on the go.

    • A solid travel router, I mainly purchased this to allow me to transfer document direct from my phone to a portable hard drive, works like a charm
    • and I was able to power the TripMate Nano, and the USB hard drive and SATA adapter without needing the extra power cable attached to that SATA adapter
    • It's just to weak to do the job and for now back to having the hard drive wired to a usb port on my tablet again, but at least i get the full 40 mbps over the usb and can watch large HD videos at full speed
    • it does not read external hard drives unless you reset the SMC 2-3 times.
    • Connect a battery back, and you can stream your portable hard drive contents over Wifi/NFS to Android XBMC/Kodi without root access
    • I bought this to share videos and other media from one source (external hard drive) to many devices (kid's tablets) at one time

    • I have several portable USB hard drives but none of them are recognized
