HooToo Wireless Travel Router, USB Port, High Performance- TripMate Nano (Not a Hotspot)

    • It's just like the network at home but without internet access
    • Used it as an Access Point to get wireless service where the only network connection available was a wired Ethernet
    • I purchased this router while I was on a trip because I wanted to create a secure wireless network to connect my devices to while away from home.
    • I could not figure out how to make it show the available networks
    • After troubleshooting, found that the unit does not tolerate a network that has intermittent slow downs
    • Followed the instructions included but It was not showing all the available wifi networks including the one I wanted to connect to
    • You get a pocket-sized router to take with you to provide you Internet/LAN access when there is another network available.
    • works flawlessly, could probably be faster for better networks
    • Go to Roku or whatever you're trying to connect, find the TRIPMATE NANO in the available wireless networks and click connect.
    • The router is very small and light, and my only complaint is that it doesn't come with a short network cable or a AC power adapter, which would be handy for some, but ultimately are not that big of a deal for me.
    • the three stars are for the great price the minus two is for the short range the network works, slow speed, and that it doesn't support all types of file to stream off a connected hard drive.
    • However, it works well as a separate wireless network.
    • This little piece of technology has significantly reduced the stress of connecting to a faulty network!
    • I've had to reload the page a few times to get it to show the list of wifi networks available
    • I can now stream on a secure wifi network I created off of a hotspot
    • but then, it seems to have problem network credential authentication.
    • As a comment, wireless network at the hotel is always slow, this little router gives the option to increase the speed around 5 times!
    • This device will help only if either your network or the device you want to connect have wireless capability
    • Multiplayer local-network games like minecraft work across it.
    • Perfect for when you are travelling and gives you a little peace of mind while connecting to unsecure hotel networks.
    • the three stars are for the great price the minus two is for the short range the network works, slow speed, and that it doesn't support all types of file to stream off a connected hard drive.
    • I purchased this because I needed to create a secure wifi network when connected to a hotspot (xfinitywifi)
    • The network can be secured too, so no one else can see your data-stream
    • That may just be an isolated incident because this problem happened at a more primitive venue that wasn't really designed for modern WIFI networks and it worked fine at a place like Madison Square Garden in NYC.
    • Took a lot of futzing to get it set up as I'd like (extending network from my MacBook Air, so I can share a single connection with my phone or tablet).UPDATE: I am updating my review to 4 stars, after some satisfying / clarifying email from the tech support folks at HooToo, and after having used the device on a couple of trips.1
    • I bought it to use as a portable, secure network piggybacked on a public hotspot (hotel, airport, campground, etc.)
    • I'm looking forward to using the router to create secure mini-networks when accessing free wifi networks on business trips to Europe and Africa.
    • [ the little wifi icon on the bottom right corner will display all available networks
    • Using it as a portable NAS (network attached storage) for my dad who moves around
    • If you are comfortable configuring network devices and don't mind going through the setup screens every time you connect to a different network, this is a great option
    • I did log into the router's setup screen, which was extremely easy, and change the network name and password, also easy, and all my devices are receiving a strong signal
    • This little nifty gadget was able to provide me my own safe private network in a hotel without using my own data plan.
    • I tether internet access to it from my phone, then everything else connects to it to share the internet, and to give me a portable home network.
    • I am very pleased to say this works beautiful for DLNA aka streaming content from a network hard drive, if you aren't familiar with DLNA
    • I needed a portable personal wifi network to demonstrate some prototype equipment and this does the job very well.
    • I use it primarily when traveling for places that have only a wired network available and this allows me to easily connect my phone and laptop to the Internet wirelessly
    • Typical hotel speeds are 6 to 12.The only cautionary comment I can make it when I set it up 60 feet away from my PC, I couldn't see the SSID in the available network list.
    • This is a great little portable router/ network hub
    • In addition it has a USB port which allows you to share files/media from an external HD over a secure network
    • By connecting to the Hotel Room Ethernet instead of the Hotel WiFi there is a better chance for a solid and faster network.
    • They did have an ethernet connection in the room, so I was able to plug it into the Nano, make sure the switch was set to WIRED, and voila, the network was immediately available with no configuring necessary
    • I was able to initially connect to the device but when attempting to create a password on it in order to secure my network, my phone was unable to connect, despite being ultra certain what I was entering matched what I had told the device I wanted the password to be.
    • Moreover, while scanning for available wireless networks, sometimes the TripMate Nano shows up, and sometimes it's completely missing
    • As far as the item itself goes, this works just as described, and I love that you can carve out a secure wireless network for yourself when traveling or using other sorts of public wifi.
    • so no one even knows it's there and those who use t-mobile but suffer from bad reception(I work in an industrial area) we can now benefit from WiFi calling.
    • At home, i linked it with my 2T portable hard disk
