Unless I set each print job to "Maximum BPI," which slowed it down to a page per minute, the printer wouldn't even print basic letters without leaving gaps or little smudges all over the page

HP is really moving us forward in simplicity here, I'm glad to have this printer, it was easy to set up, prints well, and would be my first recommendation for anyone in the market for a new home printer.
