After working with very helpful HTC technical support, they asked that I get the card replaced.

On this subject, it should be noted that HTC includes a 3.5mm to USB-C adapter in the box!- Phone is known to be somewhat fragile, and has lackluster third and first-party support

But I still won't recommend it, because the support really is that bad

HTC has horrible customer support and no way to repair their defective U11s

Never in my life have I dealt with such terrible phone support

If you're on the fence about this phone, I'd look elsewhere, unless you like poor quality, support and being at the mercy of HTC.

The HTC U11 is basically a U Ultra that doesn’t suck and has a few more bells and whistles.
