The tone is decent and the electronics work as they should.
My husband who is a ling-time professional bassist uses it to learn and woodshed on and claims it has a tone good enough to play on stage, which indeed I have.
It has a great tone and the size is perfect for my wife to learn to play
The neck is the same length as a full size guitar and it has great tone, the knobs really make a difference and the tuners hold in tune GREAT

I would recommend this bass guitar to a beginner bassist because it is a perfect size.
Nice bass for the money, size of a Strat, overall nice guitar, sounds good but does not have the full round sound of a Fender P-bass but for 1/5th the cost its great buy!!

I plug it into a earbud amp and can practice while "watching TV with my wife" Nice smooth action, well finished and very attractive.

The smaller scale makes it so much easier for a guitarist like me to play, and the pickups are actually pretty decent, too

In fact, one path to getting a semi-pro bass in this size without the cost of a custom build seems to be examining several of these until you find one of these with a great neck
Most basses and guitars have some mechanism for adjusting the action, but that is useless unless the neck and other components are stable and solid
There are also some minor finish issues: for example, there are small gaps where the neck meets the body and some paint issues around the neck
The Ibanez has a slender neck,easier to get my hands around, and sweet sounding pick-ups,I was really impressed with the quality for the money
On a crummy instrument ( bass or guitar) you can't lower the action beyond a certain threshold where the strings buzz, fret-out or even play the wrong

I had to slightly adjust the action and the intonation, but otherwise this thing was great right out of the box
Even pro players love these little things for fun, travel, tour-bus practice, back-stage warm up;THAT is how good these inexpensive little beauties are!
