    • The replacement unit has so far worked without failure for the past three weeks, and I've yet to experience any malfunction or issues as of the writing of this addendum.
    • This was the short version, here the long one:the reason for many of the problems is a basic misunderstanding of the conception of a balanced circuit: the output of this device is BALANCED, thus the plus/minus poles are 180° phase inverted relative to another, if you connect this 3,5mm plug to a NORMAL unbalanced laptop/soundcard input it will either not work at all (as in my case) or it will be catastrophically full of noise since of course a normal input does not 'substract' the two pole signals, that is performs anther 180° rotation on one of them
