As a bonus it does an excellent job picking up cat hair our regular vacuum cleaner (a Miele canister) did not

After I finish vacuuming, it never fails, a cat will drop a chunk of hair.

And by the way, if you have pets and you're worried about how they'll react, I'll say that our three cats originally were scared of the Roomba

The two other bots do a decent job for everyday cleaning (I own a huge fuzzy ragdoll cat btw), but if heavy duty cleaning is what you're primarily after, get a roomba.2

My cats don't bother with it and want nothing to do with it but are not afraid of it either.

We do not have children, and only 1 very lazy cat, we have no clutter and our furniture is limited to what is needed and used, we have a lot of wide open space on our floors so this may be why R2 does such an amazing job

However, when I showed her the cat hair and dirt that the 980 picked up today in 1 pass, even she had to admit that it picked up a LOT

So we end up moving her and her home base from section to section - not quite the one-robot-to-clean-them-all that we had hoped for, but still better than the results we had from using our old vacuum.4* instead of 3* because she is doing a great job vacuuming and nudging us to clean up enugh for her to vacuum.4* instead of 5* because we need to move her between with the three sections of our house that are all on the same level, and because we haven't been able to convince either of our cats to ride on it and thus give us opportunities for Funny Cat Videos.

Each time she docks, I clean out her basket and brush off her filter and each time I do it, I am shocked as to how much dust, debris and fur is in the basket!!

We have to empty the bin after each cleaning as sometimes there is so much hair/dirt that even in one cleaning, the roomba will stop as the dust bin is full.

I definitely recommend this as long as it's not for excessive dog hair on carpet.

The brushes are more advanced and much easier to clean as they are a strips of rubber than traditional brush fibers
