Joyo JF-01 Vintage Overdrive Guitar Effect Pedal with True Bypass

    • A great backup if your amp quits on you as well.
    • Gives great overdriven tube amp sound / versatile for 95% of music - not for bone-crushing metal
    • So I got this because I didn't own a good amp and wanted a decent sound coming through the
    • These can go from a full blown cranked amp to warm clean amp that breaks up with an overdrive pedal in front of it.
    • Of course, an actual amp is better, but in a tough situation or for practice, this pedal is great
    • This pedal really is a great amp simulator.
    • I had been looking at this pedal for awhile as a cheap solution to try improving the sounds that come out of my cheap Behringer solid state amp
    • Bump the volume on the pedal up a little if you want a volume boost for leads but make sure to compensate with the clean channel amp volume
    • It also seems to have a good drive sound on a clean amp.
    • Hook it up directly to your soundcard to record and get an amazing mic'd amp tone
    • The Super Champ is a great little amp, but it lacks a mid-range e.q. knob
    • Not sure how it will sound as a standalone gain tool for a solid state amp, but it certainly does an excellent job of driving tubes
    • Don't bother buying it if you have a good tube amp already. :-)
    • The Super Champ is a great little amp, but it lacks a mid-range e.q. knob
    • This pedal has a nice warm sound when played through a clean amp
    • In fact, I'm surprised that an overdrive pedal - one that sounds pretty "overdrivey" when the amp is clean - has the capability of taking me into metal territory
    • It gives your inexpensive tube amp that Marshall crunch.
    • I'll disagree with those that imply you need to pair it with a good tube amp - you'll get good crunch in front of a solid state amp, or even when recorded direct in
    • I have other pedals (and a good amp) for that
    • This is great wisdom to the players that pair this (or an OCD) with a fendery clean amp, or any old amp with a good clean sound
    • if you only have a clean amp and want a distortion sound it is good
    • This pedal brought my solid state Carvin amp to life!
    • I have an American Strat and Fender solid state amp
    • It seems to do nothing as an effect and draws power reducing the volume on your instrument as well as the amp.
    • I've plugged the Oxford into my portable PA/keyboard amp with the sim engaged like you're "supposed" to, and I couldn't dial in a sound that sounded good or interesting at all.
    • It makes both my solid state and tube amp scream with pretty equal results on both
    • It pushes his amp quite well.
    • Sounds great to give a clean amp a little bit of dirt (using a strat with the neck pickup on a clean tube amp gives a very nice SRV-type tone) or for driving an already crunchy amp further
    • Just throw it in line between my guitar and my very mundane amp and suddenly the world turns metal.
    • This thing is great if you want to produce a good amp sound through a recording console or a PA without having to crank an amp to eleven.
    • This is a nice little amp that I picked up several years back, and I see that it is becoming rather rare now
    • I play a 97 les Paul through a fender mustang amp ( a cheap digitalized practice amp) and can't believe the tone and sustain I'm getting
    • Can't compare it to the real thing -- through a solid state amp, maybe a little hissy and thin at times
    • I like it best into a clean amp
    • If you have a good amp and a good sound you'll want the JOYO because of
    • I have a Marshall MG15CFX solid state amp
    • , the volume drops on all of them, I've confirmed this, mine is not broke, you have to crank the volume to reach unity w amp, the American I own doesn't have this problem, and its horrible sounding at stage levels, get the American instead.
    • Of course, you can't realistically compare the sound you get out of this pedal to a genuine Vox amp, but you'll definitely get something in that ballpark (to use an American term haha).Very useful tool with versatile tones and responsive controls
    • a good solid state amp (80's Yamaha usa-made combo) sound great and full of nice warm tones
    • I suspect any good tube amp will get along well with this pedal
    • Not a bad amp sim for the price
    • Sounds great through a clean Fender tube amp
    • The Champion 40 is actually an already exceptional amp with serious improvements compared to past SS amps, but still without tube quality when you crank it.
    • The Bad Monkey is good with solid state amps and the Maxon is nothing short of a let down
    • Before I had a good tube amp this is what I depended on
    • Used at the very end of your pedal chain along with a PA, you've got yourself a nice amp with a lot of options.
    • This sounds a lot like a classic tube amp being overdriven.
    • Whether you use it more as a boost or use it as a stand alone overdrive into a clean amp, it works quite well
    • I play slide, classic rock, blues, roots styles, and mostly use no pedals--just straight into a good cranked amp, for my tone.
    • The Super Champ is a great little amp, but it lacks a mid-range e.q. knob
    • The bad; the treble control sounds as if it is stuck on full even at off (it is not, this is a working model); meaning when one goes from "bedroom volume" and crank it up on a stageable amp it is entirely unlistenable, wincingly painful in fact
    • No Brutalzzz - there are better pedals to cop the scooped 5150 or triple rectofier kachunky palm muting downtuned type thing, but you can get close with the right amp EQ and this thing dimed.
    • Into a mostly clean amp, I have the gain set to roughly 10 o'clock, and I have enough gain to play Van Halen and the like
    • It's hard to believe I can get such great amp tone out of this device, especially considering how affordable it is.
    • I don't know what this would sound like in front of a solid-state amp -- probably still pretty good -- but if you already have a tube amp, buy this box
    • I bought this with the idea I was getting a pedal that would give me usable Marshall amp sounds
    • Before you go out and spend $$$$ on a boutique tube amp, put the Ultimate drive in front of that old reliable solid state amp you've got tucked away in the back corner
    • Really made my amp sound more like a Marshall
    • I had been looking at this pedal for awhile as a cheap solution to try improving the sounds that come out of my cheap Behringer solid state amp
    • BUT it emulates an amp so well it even gives you the hiss at high gain
    • That doesn't mean that if you use this pedal in tandem with a solid state amp and a telecaster and you don't sound like Jimi
    • Of course doesnt sound like a expensive amp, but sounds better then some amps that are a lot expensive than this pedal.
    • You kind of have to experiment with the five control knobs until you get the sound that you want, which I can basically do with my Marshall amp, or any decent amp
    • I've played it through a Blackstar solid state amp, and it sounds good.
    • This pedal makes for a great little "amp" for studio recording
    • I put it in the effects loop of my Fender Studio Lead (50 watt, solid state) amp on the clean channel, and I can dial in the Vox AC-30 coolness, the hollow mids and that distinctive crunchy gain sound
    • I don't think this sounds all that good in front of an amp, unless you are playing a very clean amp, but it probably was not designed for it anyway
    • This is a great marshal amp simulator
    • The pedal has and awesome cranked amp sustain, tone and response
    • I run this in front of an already distorted amp and get tons of creamy buttery goodness with gobs of sustain
    • my setup is pedal ---> digitech RP unit with a fender clean amp sim, EQ, headphone output ---> 4x12 cab
    • I cannot overemphasize that this is an overdrive meant to work with a good tube amp to produce more of the classic roar of a cranked Marshall, but not really to go into metal territory (love the MT-2 for that though!).
    • Even with that, it kills so much of my amp volume that I have to crank my amp way louder than necessary to compensate
    • However, the Valve Standard has a reputation for being "bassy," and mine was no exception; even when I raised it up off the floor the sound was way too low; elevating the amp had helped some but not enough
    • keeping a decent bedroom/apartment level is no problem with a nice amp on its nicest clean setting and the JF-02's level on no more than 3-ish
    • Below that it's adding noise of a different character than my amps gain channel, but no more or worse noise
    • I was able to dial in a pleasing sound for the first time with this great amp
    • The amp also sounded brash to me, the opposite of the Bassman
    • You will be happy with this pedal if your looking to boost your amp a little or a lot
    • long enough to tell it was great and made the Squier Strat/Solid State amp demo rig sound totally happening
    • However, the Valve Standard has a reputation for being "bassy," and mine was no exception; even when I raised it up off the floor the sound was way too low; elevating the amp had helped some but not enough
    • One of my most used pedals, great for over driving a clean tone amp.
    • If you can play and have a decent amp - you can get a variety of great sounds out of this little box
    • My only categorical criticism is, what are you doing playing with a solid state amp?
    • you feel like you're playing a good tube amp cranked up
    • Its responsive to your picking attack, its distortion is very very harmonically rich, and it does give you a Marshall type sound, good boost in the mids and bass, giving your tone the sonic density that those amps are famous for
    • If you want it as a distortion pedal it is great, but as a way to go direct into a PA it is an incredible solution if you don't want to haul an amp or struggle with your amp being too loud for your venue.
    • I don't think this would be useful for solid state amps though.
    • Turning any knob has a major impact on the tones - it can serve up anything from chimey clean to tube amp on the verge of break-up to warp overdrive, with a powerful EQ to go along with it
    • It has a lot more high end available and can turn the muddiest amp into a tight mid-range heavy metal monster
    • Apparently it didn't blow me away so much as to get a replacement though.
    • Not the end all pedals like some claim but they all work as they are supposed to.
    • I recently bought Fender's Champion 40 for a small travel amp as well as for its cheaper price.
    • I get this effect with both my Marshall tube amp as well as with a rack mounted preamp
    • At first I was confused as to why it sounded horrible but got such great reviews
    • works as it should.
