The cause was the adjustable strap just disintegrated on its own

So nice and strong I strapped the wife's yak under mine orrs life jackets cooler in mine

so I added ratchet straps to hoist it up a little bit more, the strap that goes around the kayak is also questionable so as a precaution I added two more straps just in case

Being said did used the strap as an add on safety support (long term storage hang on an eyelets)

The new straps (that don't use clips) are solid and the rope, although still plastic, seems fine.

They improved the straps by making loops to adjust the height.

The plastic strap clips that other reviewers commented on, that broke or slipped and allowed a dangerous boat drop are indeed gone - replaced by simply sewing multiple loop options into the strap, to fit your particular boat - to put the hooks through

The straps are adjustable but again may not get your kayak as high as desired.

Speaking of the straps the way they designed them isn't in the same way that a climbing daisy chain is designed where if one section of stitching fails the next loop will catch, here if the loop you are using fails the whole strap will come off the hook and your boat will fall, so make sure to inspect the straps from time to time.

Notes: It MUST be attached through the ceiling to a strong beam(s), so accurately locating that beam is essential

Only 4 stars as the company shouldn't include any lag screws and should require the purchaser to buy the appropriate rated screws for mounting as the included screws for my application were too short and some were very poor quality as they broke.

This thing is as great as it is simple.

A little tricky to orient and run the rope but works as it should.
