LeapFrog Epic 7" Android-based Kids Tablet 16GB, Green

    • Because it's Android based and has access to the Amazon Underground apps we can load some free Android apps, and can also load our own movies on it
    • My son loves this, but the apps are expensive.
    • There are some really great educational games and apps available through Leapfrogs app store
    • Leapfrog apps are the best for providing an educational experience!
    • Draw backs are the expensive apps and the pen tip completely fell apart
    • Hundreds of truly free apps, this can run them
    • I hope in future more apps are made available by leapfrog for older age groups
    • The main problem we have come across is you are unable to put apps from google play store like other tablets
    • it has alot of pre loaded with great apps and learning
    • I always found the previous generation Leapfrog tablets to be overpriced because they were a locked ecosystem with very limited (and overpriced) apps/games
    • The leapfrog apps and software are very expensive.
    • There are not any free apps which was shocking as I thought there would be a couple preloaded games.
    • The apps are expensive, so be warned
    • but if you're looking for something that you can add your own apps from an app store for free, (like the Android Play store) it is not the tablet for you
    • There is no way to connect this device with a google account, so even though it might run on the Android operating system, the app center available to buy from is still the LeapFrog app center, although some content has been adapted from the Google Play store and made available in the LeapFrog app store, like Fruit Ninja Academy.
    • Don't get me wrong, the Kindle is great for the price, but my son was having a hard time navigating it, and he missed his LeapPad apps.
    • The graphics aren't anything to rave about and the apps are extremely expensive
    • You can also download apps and games from the app store and it now includes popular android apps as well including Fruit Ninja Academy: Math Master, Doodle Jump, and many more
    • but it's nice how it can download amazon underground and get free apps from there
    • It took a lot longer than I expected to do things like close out an app or return to the home screen
    • Fortunately, you can find gift cards on sale, and there are app sales as well to help mitigate the dent in your wallet.-You will lose access to many of the older Leap Frog apps that ran on previous tablets.
    • After having this for a while now we have kept the free apps and what came on it only, the market is ridiculously expensive for movies, apps and what not.
    • However, I did find it a little difficult to navigate as far as finding good apps for my 3 year old, and knowing what all options are on the child only portion of the tablet
    • All this to say - this app is extremely buggy and hard to figure out which apps are compatible for
    • They can play lapser games and i put amazon onto it so i can access all the free apps and games from there too
    • This has allowed us to add Amazon instant video for kids as well as the Kindle app
    • My 3 and 5 year old love my mini ipad because it is well stocked with good kids apps, but the mini is expensive, too open for them (my email and social media are on there, and my 5 year old reads fluently), and too easy to break
    • The tablet is well made, the problem is that even though it is an Android device, you can not install Google play or any good free apps
    • and I like that we can download older apps as well
    • With this new version, kids can go to approved websites (pbs kids, national geographic, etc), I can download free apps from the amazon store, and I can buy apps from Leapfrog
    • The Android based system allows us to download additional approved apps and the system - while it took a few hours to get used to - is really child friendly and customizable.
    • This allows the boys to now install some of their favorite Android apps
    • Yes, apps on the LeapFrog store are more expensive than what we're used to in other app stores.
    • I was able to put all my daughter's favorite apps onto one device
    • Pros:Educationally focused tablet by leapfrogParental controlsThick BumperStylus that can be stowed into the tabletAbility to create separate account for childrenBatteryStill able to add favorite apps know on Amazon and GoogleHas 16 GB of storage with the ability to add 32 GB moreCons:Parental controls are basic there is a potential for better functionalityViewing angles for
    • Not only waste of money on the tablet, but also waste money to buy expensive apps
    • The leapfrog apps are too expensive when amazon underground has the same apps for free
    • , so I am able to install some free apps on here
    • Once this changes I will give 5 stars!(Re: Most important apps missing for us- Tangled, I Spy Spooky Mansion (ALL I Spy), All Magic School Bus movies/games, All Sophia the First, Frozen E-Book, Princess Pop-up Story Adventures, ALL Clifford, Transformers, Iron Man, etc.)Also, it would be nice if they had folders like our Leap Pads had to organize the games they have
    • It will not switch apps immediately like an Ipad would.
    • Very difficult to download and use apps, there are not many free apps available, slow processor, games and other apps are $10+ to start.
    • He did apologize for any inconvenience and offered me two free apps.
    • We already had a kindle, but the Leapfrog apps, while more costly than the apps on itunes/amazon app store, really were educational and loved by my barely 5 year
    • The bumper protects it well, and although many people complain about the large bezel I have noticed that it makes the tablet easier to grip for small hands.-The screen, while crappy overall, does feature fairly vibrant colors when viewing directly.-This is (currently) the only Android tablet that supports Leap Frog apps.
    • The apps are pricier than the iPad apps but the substance is greater as well
    • I like the Leapfrog apps because they can be purchased on sale with discounted cards purchased online
    • Very difficult to download and use apps, there are not many free apps available, slow processor, games and other apps are $10+ to start.
    • Once this changes I will give 5 stars!(Re: Most important apps missing for us- Tangled, I Spy Spooky Mansion (ALL I Spy), All Magic School Bus movies/games, All Sophia the First, Frozen E-Book, Princess Pop-up Story Adventures, ALL Clifford, Transformers, Iron Man, etc.)Also, it would be nice if they had folders like our Leap Pads had to organize the games they have
    • The Android based system allows us to download additional approved apps and the system - while it took a few hours to get used to - is really child friendly and customizable
    • You can easily spend hundreds in the leapfrog store trying to make this this something that your kids will actually enjoy and use more than 15 min a week because 2-4 apps isnt enough to keep them entertained.
    • The available app stores are polar opposites and if it was advertised as an option it should be an option with the current amazon store being completely unacceptable and even comical next to the leapfrog store.
    • If that involves having to settle to downloading free apps via questionable methods (blackmart,kat.cr,luckypatcher-createapk, etc.
    • So hassle free!Yes, the Leapfrog apps are pricey, but as a leapfrog parent, I am well aware of the investment
    • Easy to set up - even a place for 6 "favorite" apps or simply swipe and find the rest!4
    • Great for learning and getting off useless apps on other tablets
    • Once I did that, I added some of my son's favorites (Angry Birds!) and took advantage of Amazon's App Underground, which offers free apps with free in-app purchases
    • All this to say - this app is extremely buggy and hard to figure out which apps are compatible for
    • They range from $5 - $25 and Leapfrog has a lot of great apps that they put on sale so be sure to subscribe to their website to stay updated on those deals.
    • Slightly flaky but the best of both worlds -- LeapFrog content and a great front end our four year old boy likes to play with, but you can use it for any Android apps too if you use the Amazon app store or other alternative app stores like 1Mobile Market or CNet.
    • This allows my kids to now install some of their favorite Android apps right to their own device!
    • Exceeded my expectations in available apps and ease of use
    • There have been headaches with them over the years, such as apps disappearing, cracked screens, wifi not working, battery life, cartridges getting lost, and more
    • Spend a few extra dollars and get a real tablet from a company that offers true customer support, is repairable, and offers free apps.
    • He loves the leapfrog apps and they are fun and challenging.
    • The bonus is that kids are protected from accessing the internet and other inappropriate content but the big downfall is definitely the lack of affordable apps.
    • Some Android apps are not compatible with the Epic
    • My daughter has been able to side load many free apps from the android store such as PBS Kids, PBS Games, Nickelodeon games and apps, many from the Amazon app store and others we find as we go along
    • My actual main complaint is that the apps are very expensive and most of it seem to be music/ videos??
    • The apps are definitely more appropriate for the 5 year old
    • Then after doing minimal research I figured out how to download apps from the Amazon store as well
    • Half the time the apps crash instead of working - even native/preloaded apps like LeapSearch videos
    • I have chosen to give my 5-year-old more apps and restrict my 2-year-old to just a few
    • You can also time set certain apps as well.
    • Free and paid apps are light years better, downloading movies for the car, etc
    • right now, Sept 2015, there's a 40 percent off game apps if you use the promo code GAME40 - but you can always find different ones almost every other week on Leapfrog's site!).This Epic device appears to have the best of all worlds - access to the Leapfrog content but also supposedly the ability to download apps from Amazon's appstore (including apps like Netflix - although this is according to the Leapfrog promotional material and I haven't figured out how to do it yet - although I also haven't tried very hard
    • Second the "free" apps that come with the epic are ridiculous, they are uninteresting to my child and would rather use my phone for youtube rather than use the epic
    • This is separate from free apps or apps you buy yourself
    • but I haven't been able to download the Amazon kid freetime app (sad!)
    • He has his favorite Endless Reader app on my phone that I purchased for
    • Plus the apps are super limited and very expensive.
    • With access to popular Android apps, a web browser with parental controls that can be adjusted as kids grow, and no need for game cartridges this feels much more like an on-the-go tablet that can grow up even longer with my kids
    • The apps crashes quite often
    • You set the starting level for the child and the apps will follow their progress and adjust to their learning level
    • But it comes with a handful of free ones and if you download Amazon App Store you can access all those free or cheaper apps/games.
    • Oh educational apps that I bought so far seem good to great
    • They did offer me 2 free apps from a very limited selection though- for the pad that no longer works.
    • Along w/ Leapfrog's fantastic, educational apps, he loves Angry Birds (zero educational value haaaa), so I read instructions on how to access amazon app store in order to put a couple Angry Bird free apps on the device
    • I've been a fan of LeapPad tablets for years, appreciating their sturdiness and great educational apps
    • The apps and games from leap frog are very costly but it seems to work well for my child.
    • By the way their solution was to give me free apps
    • My daughter loves it too and she goes directly to the "kid safe" app area - not b/
    • We downloaded apps like YouTube Kids and Disney Jr and after they were installed we tried to find them (and they say they are installed
    • The existing apps are entertaining and I like very much the concept of a curated store with age appropriate apps available for kids
    • Maybe the top online store company to date, falsely appearing to offer "free" underground apps somehow made it possible to be included in a kids only tablet yet, offers nothing different then the app store they offer everywhere else packed full with popup ads and other unwanted things so the price it used to be is well covered so that it may be offered for "free".I understand the concept of it all I truly do, just not on something intented to be a kids only device.
    • Had a small problem with the power button and they offered me 3 free apps as compensation for my device that wasn't working
    • Some of the children's apps in the Apple store are just fluffy junk and I try to reserve the use for myself but as a parent it's difficult
    • The leapfrog apps are not cheap
    • so I'm finding it very time consuming to locate affordable quality educational apps to install
    • And after you install the amazon store leapfrog blames those apps for the tablet crashing.
    • There are so many awesome free apps.
    • Loved the apps and the option to add android apps like netflix
    • Along w/ Leapfrog's fantastic, educational apps, he loves Angry Birds (zero educational value haaaa), so I read instructions on how to access amazon app store in order to put a couple Angry Bird free apps on the device
    • I wanted something better than Youtube Kids to help distract him and there are a lot of good apps that you can get for the tablet and he can navigate using the tablet on his own
    • We have several leapfrog games that they both enjoy and we also installed the Amazon app, so that we can get a lot of the free or really cheap apps that way
    • There's a pretty robust parents section where you can choose apps and (what I liked)
    • Connect to wifi, add your Leapfrog parent account, choose the free app, and it downloads everything you've purchased in the past
    • There's already 20 fun creative, and education apps already downloaded on the tablet and a huge library of content just waiting to be accessed
    • There is no limit of free kids apps in app store but most of them are garbage but with leap epic I can trust the content to be top quality and my little ones are loving it
    • Other comments - It is difficult to add outside apps like amazon
    • I love all the apps, and the fact that it has Wi-Fi and can actually operate as a regular tablet
    • The free apps are
    • I thought my toddler son would like the paint app and
    • All in all, it's good tablet with great apps.
    • Second the "free" apps that come with the epic are ridiculous, they are uninteresting to my child and would rather use my phone for youtube rather than use the epic
    • Downloaded a ton of expensive apps only to have a message saying I needed wifi connection to watch!
    • Also, accessing amazon app store opens up a world of awesome free apps
    • Have a favorite app your kid plays on your phone?
    • The Android based system allows us to download additional approved apps and the system - while it took a few hours to get used to - is really child friendly and customizable.
    • Access to educator-approved* kid-favorite Android™ apps (that are made available in the LeapFrog app
    • I like it, but the leapfrog apps are not so good
    • Leapfrog has the greatest educational apps for children and the
    • but when I think of them as well-designed educational app, I could easily justify spending on education
    • Set-up was easy and our compatible LeapFrog apps automatically installed.
    • Additional apps are quite pricey (though it does come with quite a few already)- Doesn't seem to hold their attention like the unrestricted ipad- Although it is customizable to your kids, trading off between siblings is a pain so we've chosen neutral or mutually agreeable themes
