Back to the Lexicon Alpha...very good signal to noise ratio - if I hear any noise from it, it's in the source material, not a consequence of the unit proper

People who knock this unit don't seem to know what they are talking about

The Tascam US2X2 and The Focusrite 2i4 are far better units, quailty wise and soundwise and are the best bang for the buck for someone who has an expectation of decent audio quality and craftsmanship quality.

I bought this unit highly recommended by a musician friend as a very easy plug and play converter.

Finally, they told me the unit was defective.

This unit worked well for me, I was using it for sound measurement for SMART

Once I purchased a 48v inline power supply, the unit worked well with my powered microphones, too

The unit feels sturdy, all the jacks work as advertised, the knobs operate smoothly and don't feel cheap.

The unit has a loud noticeable "hum" when operating, which in the recording world, spells disaster

Unit is not easily adaptable to other programs, that are easier to use.

I was amazed the unit produced the same noisy white noise in between words

This a solid performing unit at this price point.

Second, and most importantly, the unit would work fine when not being pushed but when playing back even a few tracks with effects enabled it would explode with hiss that was so frustrating

The unit is easy to install and works very well with the included software Cubase LE 4.

I assumed I had a defective unit and planned to return it

All and all a good unit, just be prepared for installation hassles.

The unit failed on me after 4 months of light home use

As it turns out, it wasn't a faulty unit, but I had to upgrade my OS (Mavericks)

but you WILL have to pay double to get the next best unit.(I give four, not five stars because of issue #1 above, waking from sleep mode.)

I have 5 units working from Win XP, Win 7, Win 8, Win 8.1 AND Win 10.

The unit doesn't work

All I can say is if you are getting static, faulty units do occur on occasion and return it for another.

I hate to think the distortion problem is caused by THIS UNIT because I like this unit when it works

This unit holds up, even when thrown in a backpack, and it's still working, even after many trips and beatings in a gig bag

If I had money to burn I'd definitely go for something higher-end, but on my budget this box now works fine
