In desperation I put my movies on a Western Digital external hard drive (My Book 3TB Essential) and connected the hard drive to the Blu-Ray player

I tried the USB access to a hard drive

i can watch downloaded movies from my hard drive or watch netflix . great picture.

Then it struck me - since I use the TV as a monitor, why not just eliminate the Blu-Ray player and connect the hard drive directly to the PC
