Linksys N900 Wi-Fi Wireless Dual-Band+ Router with Gigabit & USB Ports, Smart Wi-Fi App Enabled to Control Your Network from Anywhere (EA4500)

    • I got my router before the Cisco Cloud Setup was up and running, so I know the minute I plugged it in there'd be updates.
    • This was great had it set up and secured with two PC,s, two tablets, two blue ray players all in less than a half hour and had my Cisco cloud account set up.
    • I don't like the Cisco cloud services for account management, and there is very little instrumentation you get from the GUI as to what is transiting your network
    • I bought it before Cisco Cloud Connect came out, and without my permission the router upgraded the firmware
    • Even better, Linksys has now upgraded the firmware to allow direct local access to the router configuration screens - if you don't want to go through Cisco Cloud
    • The last firmware (cisco cloud) has an option to reboot remotely the router, dont touch it!, the router will get stuck again
    • The new firmware makes it impossible to log in to your router locally, you must have internet access and log into what they call the Cisco Cloud Connect
    • In the latest firmware update Cisco now FORCES you to sign up for a Cisco cloud account to get into the router settings
    • I was especially interested in being able to view my wireless cameras from different devices with the Cisco cloud
    • The router didn't come with the new firmware (cisco cloud) installed, I had to manually update it
    • I knew the Cloud stuff was going on at this point, so I just assumed I was getting the flash update which lets you run the Cisco Cloud stuff.
    • Super easy setup on both the Classic firmware and the Cisco Cloud connect.
    • I guess when my current Linksys router dies (pre Cisco Cloud Connect
    • Cisco Cloud appears to be intrusive.
    • * they store it away safely right?Perhaps the Cisco Connect software (not to be confused with Cisco Cloud Connect) can do more in this situation, but I couldn't try it since Cisco doesn't support linux
    • Once you have done this then the Cisco cloud connect works fine so you can access your router(s) remotely, however the router must connect directly to the WAN.
    • First off, don't be seduced by the 'smart wifi' and 'cisco cloud' gimmicks
    • Once you have done this then the Cisco cloud connect works fine so you can access your router(s) remotely, however the router must connect directly to the WAN.
    • Cisco Cloud Connect firmware is buggy and has a lot of limitations which way chipper routers do not have
    • Cisco Cloud Connect is a neat (optional) feature that will let you access the device via internet connection
    • Why should I be forced to setup a Cisco cloud account to get into my own router
    • Cisco Cloud Connect may be greater then the proverbial "sliced bread", but the corporate arrogance, inept rollout, and initial silence in not formally addressing this head on has been more then enough to permanently turn me off to Linksys-Cisco and this product
    • Fun waiting for Cisco Cloud
    • "Cisco Cloud Connect rollback" and see the results and privacy concerns.
    • There is no way to go back (confirmed by 2 Cisco Tech Reps).I cannot comment on possible benefits of Cisco Cloud Connect
    • Unfortunately this all changed on 6/26/2012 when Cisco took it upon themselves to basically FORCE an install of their new firmware which enables their Cisco Cloud Connect service
    • You have to download the Firmware upgrade to receive the "Smart WiFi" and use the Cisco Cloud Connect.
    • Cisco's attempt to add value via their "Cisco Cloud Connect" is a bad concept and while purportedly not a default, I spent countless hours trying to configure this POS to have connected devices access the internet.
    • I had heard that the new software (Cisco Cloud Connect) was very intuitive and easy to use, despite some early controversy about it.
    • Bad Cisco Cloud reliability
    • I call it a(3 party) Cisco cloud account
    • As part of the "upgrade", all users were then forced to sign up for a Cisco cloud management account, as the new firmware disabled the ability to locally manage the device
    • , i DID NOT set up the cisco cloud account
    • I will probably will try to set up the Cisco Cloud at some point, as I have a wireless security camera and would like to take advantage of its DDNS capabilities.
    • But it's a very easy a procedure,(c
    • To anyone reading my review, please see my update at the bottom of this page as I no longer have confidence in this device, nor can I recommend this product to anyone.**************************************************************************************************************************************************I purchased this router a year ago to replace our aging WRT54g after we moved into our home last year and we needed a router that could adequately handle both our wireless needs for our laptops, Roku boxes, iPhones, iPads, and Kindles, but also handle our MoCa based wired Ethernet network that has one media server, a desktop
    • My current ISP provides me with a great 100mb/s up and down
    • so it appears as "down" as far as the cloud management s/w is concerned
    • But it's a very easy a procedure,(c

    • Not to mention absolutely ease of installation, I have never in my life installed a router l so quickly, easily, and headache free!I Recommend this to anybody who's looking for a SOLID ROUTER, a Top-of-The-Line Router, AND ROUTER
    • Range is better than my previous older generation and overheating D-Link, something expectedI've had this router for about 6 month
