Mackie Studio Monitor, Black w/Green Trim, 3-inch (CR3)

    • One problem is that the Low End just needs a little more range, but it doesnt really bother me
    • One week later I noticed that the problem was getting worse and my trick of turning them off and back on was not working.
    • The internal amplifier seems to have an overheating problem, and distortion creeps in after about 30 minutes of use
    • new unit has a completely different problem and refuses to play out of red channel
    • Until then, BEWARE)UPDATE NOVEMBER 11: I messaged Mackie about the issue, and they made me call in to tech support to confirm the problem (a little annoying because only during the business day, and had to wait about 15 minutes on hold)
    • They started distorting occasionally a few months ago and the problem got worse
    • After doing some research on Mackie CR3 speakers and reading other reviews, it seems like this is a common problem
    • I done on other electronic devices, sometimes overheating can cause solder joint problems on the circuit board or It could be as simple a built in fuse

    • This is annoying, especially if your best headphones are open-back- Half the time I use the speakers, theydo not work due to a really cheap L/R selector switch.
    • The only complaints I read when I was searching for speakers was (a) They didn't have enough bass and (b
    • was too loud b/
    • , etc.)For studio monitors they aren't completely transparent and don't have a razor flat frequency response, but if you already have good ears and experience with recording then these are great "B" monitors or primary monitors if it's for home recording and demos, etc
    • I really wish i could give these bad boys 5 stars, but the manufacturer really skimped out on some capacitors, and left many consumers with the same problem: Either one speaker is louder than the other, or the switch to toggle between which is L and which is R is not well built, which leads to them not working
    • but lately i'm experiencing the "faulty L/R switch" issue others have mentioned

    • backward M-Audio.(3) The most important of all the sound is amazingly CLEAR and faithfully FLAT
    • I replaced some old M-Audio speakers that just died on me.
    • These units replaced a pair of 4" M-Audio speakers, which my 4 year old broke by experimenting with connections.
