Because this rosin is hard (like candy) you need to scratch the surface with a coin until you get this white powder

I put rosin on mine and it works good

even the Rosin would not work

But the rosin is hard and dry and rubbing the hairs on it has no effect

Bought it a bit used, when I got it the rosin was in pieces and the G string was broken

accordingly.-Rosin: use a nail file or sandpaper to grind the surface to powder and rub on bow.-Tricks: if you find your tuning pegs are slipping and not holding onto place, remove the string and apply rosin the the pegs so that is will grip and hold

The Rosin is okay given the price of the violin, but I would suggest that you get a better quality rosin because it will make the sound better and you won't have to work so hard with the bow

I would suggest actually paying a little more money and buying a better quality rosin from a violin shop, but really, for the price it's an excellent buy.

Just received this item earlier today however the rosin was cracked and broken

Other issues Ive read on here that were made clear to me by my daughters instructor and music store owner: are that #1 if your violin isnt producing sound, it needs rosin #2 it your violin sounds scratchy its because it doesnt have enough rosin #3 the pegs move because you need to twist and push in slightly while your tuning so it wont go out of

To solve the peg problem, I applied rosin powder (after scraping the rosin with sandpaper to rough up the surface), and that made the pegs more difficult to turn, which kept the strings in tune.

however the rosin did the trick to make them stay put

so I also ordered some other rosin and strings expecting the worst

We scratched up the rosin and then rosined up the bow (my daughter kept calling it a "stick")
